First Screenshots !
pretty cool, are you going for what Sun Java is going for? I was told that Longhorn already has this implemented.
not too shabby, i think it may be safe to say that the genie effect may be nearer than we think
Siwu is so getting a wiki page. ![]()

Well, for sure this thing will deprecate with Longhorn, because Longhorn is built on direct3d9.
About Sun's Looking Glass (I think it's what you're talking about), no, because currently, thoses are only screenshots.
But in Longhorn, such manips like Looking Glass will be possible.
It looks kinda ugly to be completly honest. I assume that the final will have some much cooler effects then that. Cant wait for the final, any date range you could give us by chance?

Note: Fullscreen Anti-Aliasing and Bilinear Filtering were OFF.
Don't forget that !
I'll post shots with it, it's much nicer ![]()
Well, if you talk about the pixelisation stuff ![]()
has this a relationship with this SUN/Java demonstration (Looking Glass Project)?

wow, the quote button was way way over to the right.
@donzee i have the fx5600, what does your do, mine has a .5 second freaze every 3
seconds when im playing gamez nstuff, but i thought that was cuase of my mother
board. i cant turn off the onboard videocard, and i thought the 2 were conflicting and
cauaseing the glitch.
@siwu what are the applications for this app? is it going to immitate what the genie
effect does on a mac. so when u close/min/max it will look all cool?
just wondering.
Nothing really new here, been done serveral years ago, (4-5 years???) and it was freeware back then. 2 Apps came across the skinning communitity and the litestep shell areas back around 1999-2000. They ran on Win98!!!! People used it for effect on opening and cosing windows when running custom themes. I even remember one even coming on Boot magazine (Maximum PC now) as freeware on the CD that came with the magazine.
Interesting to see if this does anything new, or brings something new to what already was created years ago.
your getting it wrong, this is one of the ground stones for expire
right now it takes a window (any window on your desktop), and creats a 3d version of it at the exact position on your screen
once we add that to the bit of code we already have to capture all the viewable window, it recreats a sort of 3d version of your desktop. The idea is to have multiple animation options for when you call up the expose functions
for example you could have the "classic" expire by just moving the windows around, no 3d effect at all, but you could have some more complex animations like adding rotations to the movments and so on !
We want expire to be functional AND look sexy
hope this cleared stuff a bit up for some of you
ps : of course the engine can be used for other thing appart from expire, but right now the main focus is expire itself ![]()
True, this engine only provides a framework to build expire on. And not only for us, remember what we said about the SDK and the plugins features ![]()
We still have to discuss about it, but some code is already working (the screenshots) and I tell you, you wouldn't have to a killer coder to dev your own expire plugins ![]()
lookin awesome... i cant wait to see the end result. Tear 'em up team (Y)
pretty nice!!!. I cant wait!
In that first pic why is the scrollbar like that. Did directx9 do that or is this just a sample screenshot that was used for the texture?
Edit: Doh. Was IE shrinking it that made some funny colors appear in the scrollbar area.

pretty cool!
you know what also can be done to improve the aliasing on the edge of the screenshots ? the screenshots could have a 1px transparent border around them and the bilinear filtering would take care of smoothing it with what's behind when in diagonal (kinda faking FSAA)
dunno if u thought that in the future, but anyway ![]()
ahh micro$oft disses the entire presentation! i love it!
