Laptop Backpack

Well

I'm looking for a laptop bag/backpack. For the past month I've fiddled with a SpireUSA backpack. It's nice, it has amazing reviews, but for $150, I expect it to be perfect. There were a few seams on it that are not up to par with my perfectionism. (hey, it's noticable enough; I saw it almost immediately)

I'm wondering what laptop backpacks/bags some of you would recommend. I'm almost completely unwilling to go over $150 (I'd rather just get another Spire, if that were the case ). A normal laptop case is okay, I guess, although I'd prefer something like a backpack or a courier bag...

btw, *protection* is the most important buying decision. Looks aren't that important, but I want more padding and protection on my laptop than most average bags (i.e., Targus) can provide... I'm not willing to risk a $2000 backpack getting ruined b/c I can't dish out a bit more dough than the average joe. The Spire bag had *amazing* level of protection. I'm interested in something like that.

Thoughts/ideas/help appreciated.

Oh yes, I've been looking at *Brenthaven* bags and cases... Those things look amazing. Can anybody please share experiences, thoughts, and ideas on this company's products?

Thanks!

Take a look at Samsonite. I have a backpack made by them for my Inspiron, and it's both sturdy and very comfortable.

those spire bags are overpriced considering they're essentially a generic build.

i've been using a courier bag that has a hidden backpackstraps so that it converts into a backpack. its pretty much perfect(and bulletproof since is made with rubber coated ballistic nylon), but i don't know if its still sold anymore its not on the mec.ca site anymore...

if your in canada, drop by an mec, and see if they have it, if not your outta luck for that one.

there is this one though...

here

if i was gonna buy a new one for my laptop, i'd just get that and mod it for more padding on the bottom and on the 'exposed face'(ie, lay in cheap sheet of evazote foam) . its what, around 40$US, so its about half the price of the spire and has some more modern design elements(ie. waterproof zippers, more comfortable design).

you probably want laptop-specific designed, but, meh... i'd stay away from those small niche colorado companies... too much overhead needed to support their pot habits.

note: the company linked is a coop... i don't know if you need to join for mailorder, its 5$ to join and very worth it.

The best laptop backpack money can buy is, in my opinion, the Boblbee Megalopolis.

The perfect size for any laptop up to 15", a hard shell (and lots of padding around the laptop compartment) to protect the soft, gooey stuff you keep inside, a modular expansion system, a harness system to keep your back happy, and possibly the coolest looking backpack ever made, to boot. Hell, James Bond wears one, as does André of OutKast!

Trust me - it's the best backpack you'll ever buy - I've had mine for 18 months now, and wouldn't trade the £100 it cost me for anything else.

I know you said $150, but the extra $40 is well worth it...

Oh, and I'm looking to get another one soon (I want a different colour :P)

well if your into the "scene" i would suggest Technics

this bag would be able to carry all of your laptop supplies, considering it can carry 30 - 50 records. so everything would be safe. plus it wouldn't warp. hhahahaha

Thank you folks for a replay!

@StevieBM...wow, those things are funky looking!

I'm not sure I could wear one without wondering if others were thinking I was from outer space ;)

So nobody has tried Brenthaven? I would figure someone would have since there are a lot of mac users here, and Apple sells Brenthaven bags...

Any other ideas/thoughts appreciated. :D
