Anyone Want To Help ?

I have a rough draft due thursday for a stupid 30 page manual. I also am not allowed to make it computer oriented?!?

So far I'm trying to break it up into sections to explain to someone who has no clue what 3d modelling is. It has a glossary of terms and begins with the basic ideas. It then will go into how to model an iPod in 3d as an example. The next chapter is how to do some basic texturing. It will end with a section with examples of 3d work from square, pixar, and some random people.

If anyone has some ideas, suggestions or just wants to pitch in and help, I'd appreciate it. Zpod is a slacker.

If they're not good with computers, just show them a lot of pictures. The bright colors will fascinate them. :P

I recently had to write a 20 page paper on Graphical User Interfaces for people who weren't very "into" computers, and they seemed to like the diagrams/illustrations.

You could make the whole thing a pop-up-book.

@ contra: I like the cut of your gib, and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

Yeah, in all reality I'm going to add as many illustrations as possible. Explaining 3d modelling is quite a chore when you can't make references to anything specific to a program.

Mabie you should expalin how everything can be made up of primitives and given textures/ corners moved around and whatnot. Should give them a very good intro to the basics, then go on to explain mesh smoth/box modling. Just a start i suppose.

how do you do a 30 page paper on 3d computer modeling, but you're not allowed to make it computer oriented?

do you mean it can't be about any specific 3d application?

The prof wanted us to cover a computer task and make it user oriented rather than computer oriented. It made about as much sense to me. I understand what she's going for in that she wants us to write manuals that are more task oriented rather than feature oriented, but she will not let us include anything such as click this etc.... and forget mentioning program names..... me thinks i'm screwed..... the plan for now is to take a tutorial thats written non-specific to any modelling package and strip it down to concepts. I think that will be my best bet.

I'm a junior in uni and I still consistently come to the realization that I'm wasting my time with school. If it wasn't for that little peice of paper, I wouldn't be here. I learn so much more on my own time, as I'm sure everyone else does the same. :(

zpod rant stops here!!!

yep. get gungho and start using those idiot profs to get what you want (recommendations/refs/research assistant hookups/blahblahblah...) and act like you agree with them while offerring palatable(fake) 'critical insights'. Most of Uni is just a recycle bin.
