[request] Styles Porting Tutorial.

Hi

I'm only interested in the porting part. "from Mac OS X and Linux in some level", However let's keep this one if there is ever gonna be one for the Mac part only.

I would like to see a step by step tutorial starting from getting permission and how do you get the resources, or you just use snapshots ect.... till the finishing part.

It would be much much better if the tutorial could be done by top port(ers), or at least by someone who done the whole process from a to z.

Thank you.

i suggest you pm the themers and porters directly. you'll definitely get a reply that way.

as for me, well, i don't port, so i can't help you, but i do modify themes. it's a little different, though, but you can always take a nicely ported theme and modify it to resemble the newer themes that you'd like to port. it's nice to be able to mod them. i mean, why re-invent the wheel?

Well dreamz, i want to learn the art of porting so i can be in control of the whole project which gonna be mostly for personal use, now why i want to be behind the wheel...

Because i want a close to perfect ports as you find sometimes ports with external additions/author decisions that you would not make if you are behind the wheel.

And most importantly i want to port styles that i like, for instance i want a NeXT port however not enough people are in to it, no porter like to port a certain style which is perfectly his right but in that case it would be handy if i know and can handle the trade, you know...

well, i mean, you can always take a port and work on it to perfect it.

the easiest way would be to get the resources (bitmaps and pngs) from someone who has a mac (or get it yourself), then edit them in an image editor. after you're done, you can replace the images in a template msstyles file (which is why it's easier to start with a port, because there's less work to do).

props to you for wanting to take initiative. :)
