For some reason ie will not let me save an image as it is anymore , it will only let me save it as untitled bmp did I change a setting somewhere or what? anyone got an idea?

That's just force-refresh, it doesn't clear the temp files properly, it'll just replace the ones that are already there for that site.

Tools, internet options, delete temporary internet files button, close IE, restart it.

Or just install Firefox

What I meant was Firefox will still let you save the file as the right type even when the cache is full
