I still don't understand why anyone would want to use Winamp over QCD..especially when QCD has such a wonderful iTunes skin..

I use Winamp3 because it also plays movies. Plus, I like how in Winamp 3 I can have a bunch of Playlists open and just click on them when I want to switch to them.

I really don't think there is a W3 iTunes skin yet. I do know that there were a few people working on several versions but they don't appear to have surfaced yet. From reading the W3 forums there is definately a forum feeling that Apple would not allow such a thing.

From what I have read about W3, it is not that easy to create a skin for and to create a fully featured iTunes application from W3 must be a huge undertaking. To produce a good iTunes W3 would require either a very talented skinner who is also a talented programmer or require a team effort.

I think the other factor about W3 is that it doesn't have anywhere near the popularity of W2 and many people who were looking to migrate from W2 to W3 have either stayed with W2 or started using another player. Considering how long that W3 has been available there are not that many skins for it.

QCD would be the ultimate if it were only resizable...

i cant stand having my 21" monitor at 1600x1200 and having iTunes looking like a over sized icon..

ok that was a little exageration but it is still very small on my screen.

It would be wonderful to be able to resize it or maximize it!!!!

I agree. But there is a strongly highlighted aluminium texture across the iTunes window and resizing a graduated texture like the iTunes one needs a dedicated program like iTunes. I don't think there is a skinnable application that could produce a resizable window like iTunes - not unless the way that the resizing is done matches the way that iTunes does it.

If you use stretching to resize the window then you loose the consistent brushed aluminium texture and it looks patchy where the stretching occurs. If you use tiling to resize then the point that you "break" the texture and stitch in the new tiles of image becomes critical and again really difficult.

Actually, thinking about this a bit more, this is probably a major reason why there is no W3 iTunes skin. Of course QCD's weakness is also it's strength in this case.

If you want a larger iTunes QCD window, you can try to enlarge the skin yourself by producing a larger playlist in the body and map areas of the skin. This may turn out to be a lot of work to match the textures but it could be done.

There are two Aqua related skins for WinAmp 3.

One is called "iToon" and the other "QuickAMP".

I checked them out tonight and I personally found them to be of poor quality.

As an alternative for a fairly good iTunes skin for an all-in-one media player, I'd suggest getting the Windows Media Player 9.0 Final and the WMP iTunes skin.

While it's not perfect, it's still not bad.

It's probably the best iTunes skin we will see for an all-in-one player for awhile

As a side note though, there are some WA3 skins that I found that were quite nice. One in particular was called

"Neptune".

It sort of reminds me of some of the Audion skins I've seen around.
