hey just saw this in the future shop flyer. RCA has put out a audio video jukebox. It can store up to 80 hrs of video, thousands of photos, about 300 hrs. of songs. Here's some info.

I can almost taste the grainy video and crunchy sound.

80 hours of video on a 20Gb drive would be absolutely apalling quality, as would 300 hours of audio..

This, of course, is not to say it'd be un-watchable, just not very good...

As a general rule, I tend to aim for ~1Gb per hour of video in DivX/XviD, otherwise it looks, to coin Xer0's phrase, "like ass".

As for Audio, 300 hours isn't too far off the mark, I suppose, but you'd be talking about manky 128kbps encoding, which the people this device will inveitably be targeted at won't want.

I think ~80 hours divx isn't too bad at all, it's 320x200, and you probably only need about ~15fps on the LCD, (lcd probably not that great).

but.... don't know exactly know how great the "MPEG-4" means, does that mean it's like VLC able to play everything pretty much or does it mean it's like quicktime, only play a certain MPEG-4 codec. First generations adopters probably going to have to do a lot of vdubbing, hehe.

*eyes pop out of socket when sees support for OS X* apple better be fast with their GEN4.

I would not mind music video/anime on the go, (and in class).

20 gigs is 20 gigs, the "300" and "80" hours is for reference, it's just 20GB.
