Go into your thunderbird folder and into the folder "chrome" open en-us-mail.jar with WinRAR and navigate to locale\en-US\messenger there you find a file called "messenger.dtd" extract it (let WinRAR opened and stay in the folder) in explorer (or whatever filebrowser you use) open the messenger.dtd file with notepad and edit the names in there, save and then drag it from explorer back into the opened WinRAR window, close WinRAR, start Thunderbird and you should see a change.
