Aqua-Soft ForumsI just read an interesting article on Slashdot. It was about how Windows should move to Linux. The article makes a lot of sense actually. Even though this is unlikely to happen, it sounds good on paper.

XP, which is NT based is not based on DOS. CMD.exe is not DOS it's just program that is a command interpreter function alike to DOS which runs on top of NT. NT was going to be the next OS/2 and was programmed by someone who worked on VMS.
MS would probably not dump 9+ years of work on the NT kernal for Linux no how no way. It would probably take just as long or longer to get everything running at the level it is right now again switching kernals.
He should be smacked with the clue stick. To be perfectly honest I think people who write articles should at least get informed about what they are writing about before they write.
Yeah, I could have sworn that XP was not DOS based, but I dont have my own website, so he is more credible than me. Its still an idea, though. Personally, I think Linux is better than NT, even though Microsoft did work on it for a while. Their biggest problem is that everyone would have to go and port their software, which is obviously not going to happen.
Quite frankly I don't think being an editor at a web site makes you more credible. It does not excuse you from being moronic.

In closing, switching kernals from NT to Linux would just create compatibility problems. Having to port all software, drivers, without giving much back.
I know Linux is cool and all but let's be realistic here.
OH yeah I just wanted to add that it's articles like this that make me smack my head with disbelief. As in.... jeez do people get more moronic each day? =Þ
See, now your just being mean. Apart from Sofware, it WOULD clear up anti trust lawsuits as Microsoft didnt create the linux kernal, so they are not responsible for incompatability. It would also bring us more toward a standard, everything running Unix type things.
And of course, Updates to the kernal would be more frequent and drastic, as a community is working on it (im not going to give an Open Source Lecture).
Oh, by the way to anyone who LIKES linux, Microsoft has a powertoy that lets you have multiple desktops, like in Linux. I didnt know if everyone knew this already, but I just found out.
Aha, but Microsoft would just work on their linux kernal and wiggle it into being their own closed source version without giving much back to the community.
And.. btw, I never said Linux was a bad kernal. Just that it would take much more resouces to convert Win to it It wouldn't benefit Linux to have MS subverting and making their own version either. Do you honestly think that MS would not try to pull a java with it?
BTW, NT is a kernal just as Mach is, you can run whatever you have a subsytem for on top of it. Which includes Unix type things.
I agree, Microsoft Is evil, and everything that it touches cripples and dies. I dont want to get into a long rant about Microsoft being horrible though. If microsoft was an Honest company (LOL), it might not be moronic (as stated), granted that it would take work to port (as all ports do).
I am getting too frustrated with this Linux, Mac, Windows thing, I should just stick with my XBOX. Halo doesnt crash on me. Oh wait, XBOX is microsoft, isnt it, DAMN! Now I got a Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft (again, isnt that a coincidence) fight.
i think they should remake windows, it is ijut a patching of one over another. It has some old stuff still.
