[help] How To Mod. My Documents And Such Paths

Hello Maccritters©!!

here i am again asking questions!

I would like to modify the folder path of the following folders: Documents, Music, Movies, Pictures.

I know i can create my own and link to them, but a lot of programs automatically save to the system set ones, and aside from that, the redundancy sucks!

Any ideas on how to do this?

The thing is that i partitioned the drive into the system part of it and the storage partition, i would like to keep the system partition as clean as possible, and all those personal folders are not allowing me to do so, i have already created a copy of them on the storage partition but i would like to tell the systema that those are the correct folders so that any other application that needs to save stuff there, uses my properly placed ones.

Any clues?

i don't think its possible. Unless you use your system part as storage and the other as system...but thats sorta stupid...

The paths of the personal folders are system relative, so it doesn't matter what partition of the drive it is in it will still be the system partition

Sorry i probably wasn't clear enough on this, but i am not on windows XP or any windows for that matter, im on Mac OS X, 10.3.3. Pe7er was just pulling my leg there

Seth,

You can move your entire Home folder to another partition quite easily - keeping everything else such as System, Library etc. on the main partition. See this link for instructions: http://www.bombich.com/mactips/homedir.html

If you just want to move a few folders such as Movies, Music etc. you can just move them and then create a Symbolic link to the new locations - don't use a normal Alias shortcut as you will have problems. You create Symbolic links the same way as any other Unix, by using the terminal. Or, you could download Cocktail which can create Symbolic links for you using the GUI.

Ok, i got to do it, however, the system seems to still think that the users folder is on the system partition, even tough i moved it to the storage partition, any clues?
