Folder Wont Die, Help?

i have a lot of this problems, it says it is beign used by other process or application. Try rebooting, then erase, if this doesnt work, you might be able to delete it from DOS, but im not sure.

good luck

then you will need to try this ultimate solution. Grab your computer, throw it through the window.

Have you tried searching in google? Why is so vital to delete it, leave it there.

#10585

You *****, are you deaf? I want it gone, not there. Ill do some Google searching then faglet. (;))

Make sure you dont have any of the files from that folder in use. For Example, when trying to delete that folder, make sure a file from that folder is not running in your "Processes" under the Task Manager. If you find it to be running, stop the process, then try to delete it. If that does not work, you are doomed.

I also get that dialog sometimes and I just don´t know what causes it, however I figured out a way to solve it. You have to kill explorer.exe from the task manager, then select File --> New task and browse to where the folder is and erase it. Then re run explorer.

#10594

You may have to kill some other tasks too...+ explorer...

. This has happened to me with other folders a couple of times and the key is to turn all apps off and re-name the folder then trash it all after re-boot. Has worked for me everytime

1.Reboot

2.Turn all apps off (whatever you have at startup folder)

3. No apps running in background

4. No Y's dock running

5. Drag folder to trashcan

------------

Still doesn't work, then do the same as above but before doing step 5 rename the folder you are trying to trash then trash it

------------

It happens because you have an application that is using something from that folder. If you turn off all apps, then you should be able to delete. If not changing the name of the folder will fool whatever app is running that the new folder is not needed

Crazy that program didnt work either, Ill try your way Videomann. BRB

sometimes, right clicking on it, and take properties, make it archive or unarchive .. may work. but not always work. that's what I do when I can't delete any file because of it is being used. ;)

OK Sone here's the thing...this problem sometimes occours because you do not have permission to delete the folder.

First of all goto Tools/Folder Options and uncheck Simple File Sharing. This will display the security tabs for each folder

Now right-click on the folder that you want to delete and go to Security. Make sure that all th eusers listed in the Security tab have Full Control over the folder. If they don't give them full control.

A better idea is to remove all the users and add yourself (i.e. Administrator) as the sole owner. i.e. take ownership of the folder. You can take ownership of the folder in the Advanced dialog box.

Hope that helps.

Please PM me if it doesn't work. I'll be happy to help you out. (maybe Remote Desktop Sharing :P....just kidding)

Sone,

as I recall, this error is because the y'z app was probably unzipped using a program like WinRAR or similar and this locks the folder because of the way it was initially compiled (for use only with winzip). If this is the case then you'll need to go through some hoops. You need to turn off 'simple file sharing' in explorers properties and reset permissions so you own it... it's a messy procedure but it was the only way I could delete some old Y'z folders myself (I use winrar as default).

There was a discussion in here a while back (2 boards ago) and this was the decided resolution.

I have this error all the time, i cant do anything to it, So i just leave it alone, after a few restarts it becomes to work again. If this was for a file that wont be deleted, then i would have opened up notepad and save the file as the file you are trying to delete.

Also, try this, go to the properties of the folder and see if read only is on, and if it is turn it off.
