hey guys, whats up.

I present to you, the latest in the Felix line of file browsers. Felix 8.

Im working on it at the moment trying to code features that will actually be useful for the user. Heres features as they stand (although they arent shown in the screenshot)

Completely skinnable interface
3 Pane browsing (in screeny)
Doesnt use internet explorer window = no bugs, more customisable
Right click menu identical to panther's
Customisable links bar on left with ability to drag items in (coming soon)
Inbuilt preferences app to eliminate harder rewriting of INI files

Heres the screeny showing my basic version of 3 panel browsing...

Woah the forums are so busy with Finder-esque activity!

You said that it had 3 pane browsing, what happens if there are more sub-folders? Will there be a horizontal scrollbar or... ?

Having never used a mac, Im waiting for a definition of what actually happens in 3 panel browsing , but i hope to find out soon.

Al, for a good description of "three-pane" browsing, take a look at Steven Garritty's week with a Mac. About 1/20th of the way down the page, he talks about the finder.

uhohh TG's microsoft like monopoly on usable finder clones might come to an end as the forgoten alilm's app lurches from the deep black void of programing obscuity. TG has a huge boost over alilms with an open beta already released, but alilms feature list is nearly overwhelming. What will happen? WIll contra ever get laid? will lostspyder ever get off the street?

1)Very very nice.

2)One thing thats critical is drag and drop with the desktop. If it doesnt have it, i wont use it.

3)Also the far left pane should be resizable. Ie i dont want to see a bunch of gay text in there, im kinda a minimistic person.

4,5 respectfully)Also will it have image previews in the right pane? What about movie previews?

6)I would also like it to not use the shell icons.

7)Im done now, return back to underpaid slave coding labor

Like TIG´s Xplore , i think the best way to do this is cloning as exact is possible the REAL FINDER.

Just that ... this won´t let everybody ask for your personal opinions that sometimes lose the real purpose of the cloning.

I guess that matters why we skin. Do we do it to make our screenshots impress the ladies and baffle real mac owners, or do we skin because we like to have a beautifull desktop that has tons of great usability, taking the best pices of both operating systems?

For Felix 8 im actually going to write my own control for the actual viewing of folders. This means I'll be able to have insane realism and make sure all your icons are aquafied, even if they arent! This will also alow for labels and such when I perfect it.

This is a screeny of my new browsing engine exploring My Music. Skinned with GANT 2 folders, despite the fact none of my explorer themes have GANT icons in them, part of the power of Felix 8. Also note the skinnable scrollbar.

However, needs alot of perfecting before its very usable, and I plan to add panther style labels.

Yeah, felix 8 will have an awesome skinning engine too. Not sure if ill keep ripples implemented tho..
