pojo is OBVIOUSLY talking about downloading music from unsigned bands that don't there music copyrighted, thus helping those bands get heard.

As for higher quality downloads, there aren't any, I don't think.
If you want higher quality than ~128Kbps, you've still gotta buy music the old fashioned way.
Personally, I would never buy music from an online service, purely because I regularly format my systems, and I'm scared of losing my music >.<

So say iTunes Music Service, if you buy music, doesn't it keep like a database of the songs you've purchaced, so you can go back and download that song as many times as you want? Seeing is you've paid and it can only be played on a few computers why not?

As I understand it, that's right, Tim.
Look at it this way - when you buy a CD, and lose that CD, you can't contact the record company or the record store and ask for a new one, can you?
If apple only raised its quality to 160kps or 192kps I would never steal music again. I emailed them about this and only got a generic response saying thanks for you input. Apples 128kps is simply unexceptable I bought like 5 songs from them then stoped once I burnt them to cd. The quality of 128 is even unacceptable on my ipod with good headphones.
Sorry to interrupt here, but is there really no legit music service offering downloads over 128k? I find that shocking.

The online music stores aren't, I'm afraid, aimed at the likes of us - they're aimed at the uneducated masses who wouldn't know (or care) what a "128kbps AAC file" was, even if it bit them on the arse. This sort of people can't tell the difference between CDs and "adequately" ripped audio because it's exactly that - adequate for them. We live in a throwaway culture, and loss of quality is the price we pay for that.
On hydrogenaudio many are satisfied with 128 AAC, but its deffinately not much better, than 128 mp3 (for my ears). Here in Russia I buy music online and the bitrate is about 192 kbps or even higher (256 or even 320).

We shouldn't buy music online. I think it is a lot better for the world if we buy music in person. And stuff generally.
I agree that the current quality sux but what can be done about it when the major sites dont cater to us Audiophiles? Would you pay more for higher quality?
3lvis. How legit is this service? Im very sorry to say Im sceptical. ALOT of warez sites are in .ru. Nothing aginst you, Ive just seen alot of warez sites that look this good.

I'd rather have the CD in my hand than an mp3/AAC/WMA on my system - much harder for me to accidentally destroy
Well...i lose my cd's loads of times, 
so i've converted everyone of my cds into mp3s and then i have like 3 backup copies of each couple cds with like 200 songs. I never lose my music. Costs too much money lol.
I know about paranoia. I have 2 80gigs that mirror each other so if I lose 1 I still got the other. Ive .mp3'ed 700+ cds from my collection (I got just a couple to finish up). I have used about 60 or so gigs so far. I use Audiograbber w/LAME @VBR Quality 3.
Im still lookin for a good, free AAC codec that will become the standard like LAME.
I have a pretty elaborate sound system being a musican and all. Now days I pretty much only listen to SACD and DVDA and let me tell you It's painful to listen to a cd now let alone aac or mp3. I have no problem downloading music to check it out via p2p (ppl have downloaded my solo album thousands of times for free those that really liked it bought it) If I really like a band I will buy the dvda or sacd or if they aren't available get a cd. What I won't do is pay 14.99 at best buy for an album that blows ass and has one good song without listening to the entire album. That being said I have a huge music collection and have spent thousands of dollars on music over the years.
All this talk about piracy is a ****ing joke. The riaa has been raping my ass for the last 20 years get off it already. Trust me I know how much it costs to make albums first hand. magnatune.com lets you buy their music online and download via many formats, including FLAC and WAV.
The RIAA doesn't want you to get good quality. They don't really want you downloading at all, so you have to go to an independent label to get good downloading deals.
The lowest Ive been able to get CD printed was $1200 per 1000. 4-panel, full color, tray insert and 1 color on the disk.
@pack - How big is the selection of SACD and DVDA stuff? Is SACD mostly Sony?
@Everyone - What would you pay for a good CD? I think $12-14 is fair. Also its funny how the MSRP has gone up on cds eventhough the industry said they would go down. I think that was said in 84-ish?
