Litestep Or Darkstep?

I'm thinking about downloading Litestep or Darkstep for my Windows XP computer. I was wondering, what do you folks think about these programs? Which of the 2 would you suggest? I'm sorry for all the questions, but the last time I tried Litestep was before I upgraded, and it killed my Windows 95 computer.

I've never used either of the programs, but a few people over at wimod have a lot of experience. You could ask them if nothing shows up here.

thank you. I'll wait a few hours to find out before I go there.

I've tried Litestep before and it works well, but I prefer Blackbox as it just works for me. With Litestep, it takes a good bit of time to configure something to my liking.

As for Darkstep, I think I tried to use it once, but it didn't work. That was when I was on Win9x though and haven't tried it since.

is darkstep still in development? i thought it was a really old project.

i know for sure that litestep is still in development. it has a huge user base and loads of documentation, so if you're unsure, i'd go for litestep. it was pretty good when i used it.

you might also want to try blackbox/bblean. i liked that and litestep more than geoshell and sharpe.

carbon was pretty fun, though.

Ooh yeah carbon was fun to try out. I think the clock was the best part though.

Is Litestep still in development? I thought it was stagnant and no one was doing anything to the latest build.

I used Litestep for about a year before litestep.net was shut down. Loved it.

But once I didn't save everything before I reformat, lost everything, then I stopped using it.

It took me a while to configure everything the way I like it.

But I believe it is a very powerful shell replacement.

First thing that drew me in was that they claim litestep takes up less resource than explorer. But after adding on lots of visual enhancement, it ended up taking up much more resource than explorer.

i used litestep for a while - it's pretty cool and stable.

there are some good emulated themes for it namely dartbra's. i may go back to it, but explorer is good enough for me.

Hmm, I think I'll look up Blackbox. That might be a good thing to use.

Blackbox was really good last time i used it, and it was still in beta stage then :)

You should try it out. It is genious with the right-click menu.

If you dont like it, you can try out Aston-Shell. It looks like explorer, but is far more customizeable, and you can even use png's and bmp's as icons :)
