DirectX 9 Have You Installed It ?

DirectX 9.0 RC 0: Public Beta for End-User

DirectX 9

Overview

Microsoft DirectX is a group of technologies designed to make Windows-based computers an ideal platform for running and displaying applications rich in multimedia elements such as full-color graphics, video, 3D animation, and rich audio. DirectX 9.0 includes security and performance updates, along with many new features across all technologies, which can be accessed by applications using the DirectX 9.0 APIs.

"This is an unsupported Pre-Release version of DirectX 9.0 and may contain bugs or issues that prevent correct operation of DirectX applications. The DirectX 9.0 runtime cannot be uninstalled. We recommend that this pre-release only be installed on Windows ME or Windows XP systems, and that users create a “System Restore” point before installing. Failure to create a system restore point may require users to reinstall Windows if a critical issue is discovered. Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, and Windows 2000 do not support the "System Restore" feature."

I find it pretty much the same. I just installed it some hours ago. I have a problem while playing, my computer frezees. It drives me wack, since i cant play freely. I think it is a uncompatibility with my motherboard. So tomorrow I will install windows ME in another partition to play, i dont think there would be a problem.

But the few time i was able to play it seemed ok.

I'll only install it if I would benefit from it.. Ie: speed increases.... ala moby.... :)

If mobydock will run faster utilising dx9- well, it couldn't hurt to try it. :)

Cheers

DirectX9 is bull****!

I've installed it and watend to play "Boarder Zone" and "Need For Speed - Hot Pursuit 2" both games won't work with it! I'm wondering if "Half-Life" will work. If not: format c: /q and re-install windows ...

Sincerely,

Cassiel

I'd like to try it, but the download is way too large for me.

I am looking for a cheap magazine with other features on a bonus CD (like some DVD player, whatever) to buy that and install it then.

DX9 is fine. I have tried it on both of my xp sytems. One of them has an amd athlon 900mhz with a geforce 4600 128mb, and the other has a pentium 4 1.7mhz with a geforce 2mx 32mb. They both work great with dx9. I am really looking forward to using moby's new dock with it!! For anyone one that is having problems, make sure you have sp1 installed and all of your hardware drivers updated. Thats how my computers are set and they both work fine! Go DirectX 9!

#10313

The only reason that I have to upgrade to DX9 is MobyDock ;)

hi Cassiel,

Need For Speed - Hot Pursuit 2" works great for me with dx9. no problems. i don't which graphics card / OS you use. but make sure to use the latest drivers. for NVIDIA, the only FULL dx9 compatible drivers are 42.01 and up ! they are not official and not WHQL-certified, but they work great. they are flying around in the web.

hope you get it working !

thanks moby, I didn't know there is detonator v42.01. In nVidia's page, the driver available is up to 41.09 only.

and Cassiel, Hot Pursuit 2 also works on my system after I installed this version of detonator. But there are few lines appear during the game. Usually the problem happen with most EA games. B)

Thanks everybody for your votes and responses. It is helpful for everyone. Keep them coming.

Everyone: Newest WHQL certified drivers are version 40.72 Detonator 40.72 WHQL Win XP I use them for a couple of months now and they work just great! ;) I don't think they are DX9 compatible... but check it out! :o

Regards, MiB.

Hi all!

As I don't know much about DX, shall I have to upgrade to DX9 in order to use mobydock, or stay with DX8 that comes with Win XP?
