[debate] Why Redevelop Existing Apps?

Hey you guys. First of all, i just wanted to say, i dont mean to offend anyone for this post... this post isnt directed toward anyone in any way.

Why do we see people still trying to make external programs to function like safari, when firefox has been skinned enough to the point where there is very little difference??? sure, the image rendering, and maybe 1 or 2 icons have been added/dropped in firefox, but come on... its a browser. There are sooo many other OSX programs that would be cool to create, why go with stuff that has been beaten to death. Recently, there have been 2 safari, and 2 safari milk skins for firefox. What happened to the other apps? splash panel, iex, address book, all those are stuff that were really cool, and unique, but Safari? we need a change of pace... i love seeing all the unique themes for like panther and milk, at least those, as cool as they are, have each artist's special little touches to it. Safari is just the same. What ever happened with trying to get trillian to work like ichat? wasnt there a mail program being created? even the object bar skins were cool.... its really too bad when you have 3 or 4 talented artists/programmers/web designers working on different versions of the same thing. I love the work being done, but it just seems to me if people just worked together, there would be one REALLY GOOD spoof or skin for firefox, instead of a couple incomplete ones.

Just my 2 cents, thats all :) love ya guys!

True. But devolping something isnt just for the community, people here arnt paid, they do it for the fun of it. So if they want to program a safari clone let them. Many people do it for experince too.

Take my advice....instead of asking questions on a forum go out for a walk....it'll do you good. Honestly. -_-

lostspyder: yah i know, but there is SOOO much talent here.... it just seems like a waste :-/

Sid: already took a walk :-p

Lostspyder has got a point there. I do agree that people do the things they do for pleasure, and it's really very much for the fun which they acquire through the process.

Anyway, talent's not wasted. It's manifested in the work they do. ;)

So true. And developers who try for accurate ports of OSX apps for PC (don't start in about Mac's are PC's, contra) are also making a point about platform-specific applications. I salute their efforts.

year right, but that's the point of using that stupid browser called firefox(i don't mean ofending:P) who cares, do you see this days, they are talkin only about that firefox skins  were's the emulation soul?? i justo give a f|_|ck on firefox :moon:

kid has a valid point

quit reinventing the wheel..

For every 1 un-skinned/created app there are 5 safari clones.

And by 'un-skinned/created' i mean there's not an equivlant windows program that can be skinned to look almost identical.

I have to agree with everyone. Developers do it for fun and if they want to make a skin, more power to them. [just do a good job, heheh]. I also agree with innocuoussoul, I really cant see the difference in the skins they are producing. Plus their not even skins their mods of the classic.rar. I havn't seen one Panther Jar file [that works]. But i guess it swings both ways, anyways i cant complain=I love modding, its soooooo addicting.
