Aqua-Soft ForumsHi all! i got my old computer here.. wich i gave away to my li'l cousin.. It's a Pentium 166 with just 32 Mb of RAM.. Now It has win 98 but it's reeeealy buggy and really slow.. 
so i decided to give linux a try.. but! it has to be possible to run MS Encarta Encyclopedia.. Any idea of what distro should i use? Thanks!

i dont think any linux disrto can run encarta, well mabie through wine, but it will b3e slow as balls emulating on that thing (yesk i know wine is not an emulator, so you cant get your knock in contra)
Yeah I agree I dont think it is possible to run Encarta under linux at the moment and i doubt wine would better the process. The only way I could see that happening is running something like vmware running windows in a virtual machine under linux but on a p166 and 32 mb of ram it aint gonna happen. In my personal opinion if your just starting out under linux I would give either Redhat, Mandrake or Suse a try until you become comfortable with it. But either way you probly wont be able to use Encarta.
Same question here, but does anyone know of a distro I could install on a machine of the same spec, but with a 1.1 gig HD? Most current distros want at least 3 gig hard disk. I just want to use it to play with linux for a bit.

zone: you're 100x better off formatting that box and doing a fresh win98 install. I guarantee you it will run like brand new.
Ludge: almost any of them. Just don't install unnecessary stuff. IE: the kernel sources, which are like 40mb IIRC. And stick to 1 XWin Manager. Either KDE or Gnome, they're both MASSIVE. Also, don't install office suites if you don't need them. Don't install SRC's for anything, just the binaries. Don't install server type stuff if you're not gonna use them. (apache, ftpd's.. etc)... you should be able to get by ok, with a few hundred MB left.
