Downloading In Firefox

the only reason i dont use firefox on a daily basis is because of the way it handles downloads. Like in Internet explorer(i use avant browser, but thats beside the point) u have the option of saving the file or opening it. Most of the time i like to just open it, it saves me from extra clutter. Now in firefox, they kinda give u that option but there is that "open with:" deally. I dislike that, id much rather just have an open button. Is there an option or plug in that will allow me to do this.

thanx

uhm.. there's an open with option.. just like IE

there's a save to option.. just like IE

there's a "always perform select action" option.. just like IE

there's a "Launch File" option (ala RUN) just like ie..

exactly what is the problem?

the open with option sumtimes makes me go search for the default app....thats just tedious to me....rahter than just having an open button like ie

don`t want to be mean but you DON`T use firefox and open a thread just to let us know?

set your default apps in the download options dialog.

its supposed to give you the option the first time and then do it the same way every time after, if you've set the option right.. otherwise you can go to options... and set everything the way you want up front.

but it seems buggy to me, it seems to ask again for the same filetype sometimes. I'm guessing that the info is cached along with favicons, history, etc. or at least similarly, and firefox seems to lose this info sometimes, resetting itself (there's a 'cache issue' supposedly, its in bugzilla).

you shouldn't have to touch plugins... as they're all defaulted to open anyways, and they seem more reliable than the filetypes section.

so, uh, idunno

but see, for example, with zip files i like to sumtimes open them and sumtimes save them, why does it not have an open button

#123216

because thats the way they made it.

#123226

what's the problem with it? i can choose to save or open.

ok realitybath answers my question....thanx, so theres no way to just have an opne button?

Edit: i remembered what bugs me the most......exe's dont let u open it...is there any way to just open an exe

#123268

well you can always re-code it, since it is open source.

#123273

that would be a good idea, if i werent 16 and have no idea how to code

i don't get why you would want to:

you don't "stream" an .exe, it just downloads and then would start running, so you should just save anyways. Is a safety feature anyways, since you want to know what exe's are being automatically run, and you wouldn't want any old exe off the internet running itself on your computer without you knowing about it(ie. automatically downloaded and run from the background download manager). Firefox is attempting to be secure, this would not be.

there's not really much point to want that function i don't think, and probably 0 incentive or desire for firefox and firefox extension developers to want to develop that.

i see where ur comin from, i guess im the only one who feels that way. its mainly just so i decrease clutter
