Exernal Hd Help!

The strangest thing happened to me yesterday.

When I came back to my home and turned on my PC, I noticed that my external HD “USB” was acting up.

Symptom: system performing very slow, and when I clicked on MY COMPUTER and clicked on that drive it gave me the following error: F:\ Not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error

I have researched online for a couple of hours and all I could find was something related to Windows 2000 and “Usbhub.sys”..Ok,,, I am running on xp home so I really do not understand where that came from.

I tried the external HD on 2 different pc’s and still the same error popped up.

Can anybody help me and advise me on what to do?...I have important info stored on that HD and I would like to know if there is a way to recover it.

don`t wanna be the messanger of doom but it seems like your HD is bye, bye. I had that prob (unable to connect) and my HD (RIP) turned out to be dead. There was no way to fix it

whoa, that scary, i own an external 120 gig.

My external hd always stays on. What would you guys recomend doing? unplugging it every so often so it gets its rest or just letting it run day in day out?

let it run as long as possible, its a machine it doesnt get tired.

Also, Arod try zeroing out your drive. That may bring it from the dead and well maybe it wont. Heck, it's worth a try.
