Why Do U Use Yzdock Instead Of Objectdock?

I am using objectdock right now, and I like it very much.

I was wondering why do you use yzdock. Do you think that it is better?

Give me your oppinion.

Thanks.

i'm using it because:

-no beta expiration

-small memory footprint

-small zip file

-fast

-auto-focus (does objectdock have that? i don't know)

-benchmarking

-i'm satisfied, so there's no need to change

if you like objectdock, that's great. if you're happy with something, there's no need to go around changing apps.

Is your name really Chaendler? That's pretty cool.

btw using OD over Y'z is just a matter of personal preference. I don't use docks at all, I use a huge 256 x 256 folder icon on my desktop which opens up a pop-up menu full of my apps. -_-

#121927

1. Many VS's here come with matching Y'z Dock bg's

2. Cause I'm too lazy to move all my icons and start over with none of my dock shortcuts

3. Albiek's weather docklet

4. I tried OD and didn't like the 'feel' of it  if that makes any sense

5. I feel clumsy using OD

6. Mr. Y r0x0rz my b0x0rz

7. and what Duckie said

#121928

more realistic

plain and simple

I don't think Y'z is necessarily better, I've used both, but I prefer Y'z in it's ease of installation... "there is none", just copy the Y'z folder to "wherever you'd like it, make a shortcut to start-up items, and you're set. :D

Objectdock can be zipped as well and no need any installation..

I only think its better because all skiners make VS with and yzdock theme included.

Because of that I´m thinking to change and stick to yzdock.

No, chaendler is not my name, is only my alias (chandler, mathew perry in friends) was already registerd :(

See u.

Y'Z Dock is simple, small and fast...

y'z is less than 1mb zipped

OD cant say the same thing, and in order to zip OD, you have to have it installed

Why does the size of it matter anyways? The only way I would benefit from having a file less than 1mb is if I was using

Anyways, I just find Y'z Dock easier to use overall, plus its 100% free (Not that it matters since I have "my sources" ;))

Y'z runs a hell of alot better on my system. Which is only 850mhz with 256 RAM.

#122029

wel for me at least I use a lot of photoshop and autocad and when I had object dock running those apps became extremely slowed down. Wth Y'z they run smoother and faster and y'z takes up a lot less virtual memor on my system. P4 2.0ghz and 768mb ram winxp pro sp1.

if i may quote keith: "4. I tried OD and didn't like the 'feel' of it if that makes any sense"

Amen to that ;)

Yz Dock is an awesome dock. Only reason why i changed to OD was because development on it hasnt stopped. OD runs pretty swell on my pc. I have no problems with it.

Agree with Keith, both OD and Moby felt "off" to me.

Yz also just runs better on my machine than the other two.

Plus it was the first dock I had tried, I feel a sort of loyalty to it.

Well said guys ! Same here.

I choose YzDock over ObjectDock because of the following:

  • Better handling of fonts, especially pixel fonts
  • IMO, more organized icon selection screen
  • Easier customizability

Not a terribly long list, but that last one accounts for many little things. I was an OD user until the RecycleBin docklet came out for YzDock. After that I've been using YzDock and nothing else. (Of course, I try out new versions of OD.)

I used to happily run OD until I discovered that YZ supported dual monitors. I could never get OD on the right side monitor which really pissed me off.

With YZ I just clicked the multi monitor suppoort and adjusted the margin......wheeeee I love it.

i use OD

because when im using YZ, and playing a game, the game will lost focus and go back to desktop.

if this problem is gone. i would use YZ

because the smaller the app, the smaller the footprint

(MOST times)

I prefer the 'feel' of Y'z - I cant explain why.

I also wonder where Y'z dock would be right now if Mr Y'z had been able to continue development

#125427

i use to use OD but i switched to y'z i was always switching my docks trying to see which i like the best

and i like y'z for a few reasons

y'z has the auto focus that works without having the dock hide.

y'z seperators look better the OD since the OD seps give more gap(i didn't like that)

some of the docklets that are available for y'z is awesome(and OD docklet i can use with avedesk)

icons don't look as sharp in OD..

y'z also has better backgrounds released fr it as well

labels in y'z also look better..

so those are my resons for using y'z

although there are a few things i like about OD

kkmenu and sysstats docklets..

kkmenu loads faster on OD since its a docklet and not an exe.

and you can use .ico files on OD

i like moby becuase of its positioning but thats about it..
