[help] Bootscreen

I have a new bootscreen i would like to use but were is it located and how do i replace it? I heard that it is the c:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl... but i tried copying the new file to over write and then rebooted but nothing, nay help woud be greatly apreciated .

You need to replace ntoskrnl.exe.

To do this, you would have to boot into safe mode and the replace the file.

Don't forget to replace the file in your dllcache directory as well.

replacer may work, but i'm not entirely certain.

make sure the file works and it's for sp1. ntoskrnl errors can prevent xp from booting.

i always have that bootscreen prob my computer looks like a perfect mac but each time i try to modify the bootscreen (i have sp1) i have problems booting then i have to reinstall Win Xp and loose all what i ve done, can someone give me a link for a mac os x bootscreen that really works for xp pro sp1 with no mrob pleaz...

Hi! I have just change my bootscreen a few minutes ago and I can tell you that the best way to do that is to boot into safe mode and overwrite "ntoskrnl" file ( but first make a copy of the original just for safety). I have tried few software for that and none of them are good enough. This is definitely the best way to do it!!!!

but the problem for me is that with a "non working" ntoskrnl.exe file my windows do not boot anymore (safe mode too) so i cant take that risk...

my xp version is pro service pack 1 and not all the bootscreens works on it...

once i ve read an article about modifying the boot.ini file to boot without deleting or overwritting the ntoskrnl.exe file (with a menu when you boot, you can choose the regular ntoskrnl.exe and yours...)

so you can try you ntoskrnl.exe without taking that risk... but i forgotten how to manipulate...

First, You must check if the new boot screen is for XP SP1, and if it is I dont see the reason not to overwrite your original. Boot XP offers you to choose between boot screens but I dont like that because I dont see the point to choose if I wanted to change it in the first place

but how can i know a bootscreen is a Win XP SP1 one?

i mean is there some way to verify that?

Compare the version numbers between your original and modded files.

so if you have the xp pro sp1 do you have to replace ti in the ddlcache folder or just in the system32 folder?

I had a problem in booting with a replaced ntoskrnl.exe for SP1.

Days later I found out that I had to use a dual-cpu kernel, because of my P4 2.8HT (HyperTreading). Where to get? have to do itself. It's easy. Use BootXP. It works.
