[req List] The Desklets That Could Be Nice

OK I got some ideas of deskets (some were given, some are done but not available yet )

- FOLDER LISTER: a desklet that would be linked to a folder (c:\desktop) and that would create shortcut to every file and folder in it. This would act as the desktop folder in Windows but if it's AveDesk that manage the elements, it would alow to fix an area to display the icons, the size, the icon itself...

- MENU: something like KKmenu like DoubleD suggested it already HERE

- NOTES / STICKIES: something where you can D&D text, with a magnification effect, with a "save as .txt" feature

ok that's it for now, i had another idea but i can't remeber now... >.<

Please only SUGGEST desklets ideas, do not react and make this thread useless for all the developers!!!!!!

Something like the CDCovers script released recently for Samurize.... something that finds out the path of the current file playing in the media player (Winamp in my case) and changes the icon to a specific PNG file found in the same folder (ie front.png - the album cover artwork). It would ideally be hidden if Winamp wasn't open.

Anyone want to make this beautiful dream come true?!!

Ok, I don't know is it possible but if it is it would be nice... ok - idea:

a desklet that doesn't show itself but intercepts a minimize event (global hook) and instead of just minimizing remove app button from the taskbar and put a nice icon (app icon or a special one if it was pointed in ini file - for example). And after right-click|left-click|smth-else it restores an app!

I think it would be nice desklet (Y)

a desklet that doesn't show itself but intercepts a minimize event (global hook) and instead of just minimizing remove app button from the taskbar and put a nice icon (app icon or a special one if it was pointed in ini file - for example). And after right-click|left-click|smth-else it restores an app!

You are right about the global hook In fact, it should should be a WH_GETMESSAGE hook on WM_SYSCOMMAND with the wParam as SC_MINIMIZE . The biggest problem is, where on the desktop should the icon appear?

Edit: changed my mind: it should be done using subclassing, otherwise DefWindowProc() would still do the minimization-animation.

may i suggest you to make the icon a "background image like"

for example you set up the desklet with dimenssions like 300*150 (very large) and put icons in it with a configurable size (32*32) and a configurable sequence (from right to left, top/botom, anywhere, following the sinus function )

this can be usefull for this tack lister and can be also used on the idea i posted of desktop item lister

for example you set up the desklet with dimenssions like 300*150 (very large) and put icons in it with a configurable size (32*32) and a configurable sequence (from right to left, top/botom, anywhere, following the sinus function )

That's an interesting idea. Using DrawAnimatedRects() I can probably making it look like the window is "going into" the icon.

I will investigate it tomorrow / tonight.

Another feature I would like to see is real Panther style labels. I can't find a screen shot anywhere - but basically when you drop to another line the second line of the label blends into the top one. I'm sure it would only require the creation of 2 additional png's with a top curve.

- and if anyone could supply a screen shot from panther it would be very handy

Maybe there is one and I just don't know where to get it... is there a hard drive desklet? Something that links to My Computer and shows amount of space left? By the way... AveDesk rocks!

Thanks rooskee. I probably should have checked the forums more and done some more scouting: I found two other solutions also. The problem with powderchecker: I found it and installed it, but when I tried to add it, I saw something briefly on the side of the screen, and then nothing. It showed up in the control panel, but I couldn't see anything. I tried increasing my screen resolution, but I still couldn't see anything. Thanks anyway!

a totally useless, but visually cool desklet would be one that would do a mini-screensaver type deal or a mini-slideshow of images from a specified directory.

so we have ports of flurry and nostalgic as far a screensavers go, but i think it would be cool to a have a lil slideshow going on the deskop or perhaps that flurry going around.

of course it could be resource intensive and all that, but might make the ladies oooh and ahhhh...
