Launch Menu's from the Dock..

Okay guys, head over to this page. I think what the program does is let you launch a menu as an exe...possibly allowing you to launch a menu when you click an icon in the dock?

#1025

Actually, never mind..

First of all, its a third party app. Secondly, it takes time to configure. Thirdly, who knows..? We might have submenus a few versions later anyways :)

#1026

or maybe Dynmenu? Its a good program, but there is one default menu item 'close menu' at the bottom which I cant remove which bugs me..

Try this one:

http://www.x21b.com/pkmenu.php

Only problem is i think it can't be "tied" to dock... AFAIK it can only be invoked via hotkeys / middle mouse button... try writing an email to the author (unless Moby or Y. implement menus in their docks first :)

BUHAHAHA! YAAAY!

You CAN TIE IT!!!

If you run PKMenu.exe instead of starter.exe, it will open at current cursor position!!!

So if you make a shortcut to PKMenu.exe and drag it to the dock, clicking on it WILL CAUSE A POPUP MENU TO SPRING FROM THE [general vicinity] OF THE ICON!!!

TADAAA!! B)

Now i only have to make a proper skin and that's it!!! (BTW, PKMenu has a transparency option)

Orcinus

EDIT: DOH! Erm... it's not quite working.... the menu springs open from the cursor downwards... so if you click on a dock icon the menu will be below it instead of above... :(

[that could be usable to people with dock on top, but i doubt there are any...]

IS there a reason noone has posted info on the LiteStep menu?

I'd like to have that step.rc. Or at least they could post it as text here so we can copy it...

#1150

1) I have no idea what the hell I just installed.

2) I have no idea how the hell I use it.

3) Is there any OSX skins for it?

4) Thanks :)

nice dude.. how can we do that? :D

#1191

Ja450n is working on it at this exact moment...he'll let us know when he's done.

Heh...he just started about 1 hour ago...

Ja450n

Nice! can you give us a step by step how to do that with LiteStep.

I thought LiteStep was an object bar ?

Would it also work for Mobydock? (for those that can only use Mobydock - since Y's dock only works on WindowsXP )

Thanks :)

after trying..

and seeing how EXTREMLY involved this is.

i think i may abandon it.

without thorough knowledge of LiteStep

there is no customization..

releasing this would only cause me headaches and thousands of help request

e-mails..

>>>

step by step ?? sorry.. can't.. tooooo many steps

litestep is a shell..

(a replacement for explorer)

as for mobydock..

it would be about 3x as hard ..

Yz's Dock natively supports scripting..

in moby dock. you would have to make a shortcut for each script. and link them to the dock.

#1217

Well, ....Thanks anyhow for the tip.

Maybe Mobydock or Y's dock will add this functionality in a future upgrade.

Anyone interested in these? Menus are a bit buggy (i.e. you always have to click on a menu item, or the menu doesn't disappear by clicking away), but still provide some kind of functionality.

I'm sure someone will come up with something better soon... hopefully!

:)

#1222

what program are you using to do that ?

is moby / yz's dock involved at all ??

#1223

Well, duh...lol

Yeah, we'd want them.

#1224

or maybe DynMenu? Its a good program, but there is one default menu item 'close menu' at the bottom which I cant remove which bugs me..

I wrote DynMenu and would just like to defend myself :)

The reason the "Close Menu" item is not removeable is that the window which the menu is attached to (which is the desktop) doesn't send messages to the menu to close. If say you right click on the desktop normally but then decide you want to close the menu instead you can just click anywhere else and it will disappear. This (annoyingly) doesn't work the same for DynMenu. I haven't been able to get it to work properly. Looking at other posts in this thread (specifically the geocities one) it appears to be a common problem.

This means that the user really needs a way to close the menu if they don't actually want to choose a menu item - I decided to add the "Close Menu" option which provides this function.

I can give you the option of removing the "Close Menu" item if you want - just be aware why it is there.

I'll look into it further.

Is there any other functionality missing from DynMenu?

Cheers,

Roger

How about making it say 'Cancel' instead of 'Close Menu'?

#1355

wow oojah! love the program, real easy to use. I DO understand why you have to have the close menu item, but like you said, can you make a version without the thing? thanks.

btw, how did you find out this post?

Hi Taha,

I found out about the post because I had about 50 visits to my site referred from here. I just had a similar thing from this page ( A Review of Docks ) which you guys might be interested in.

A new version of DynMenu is now available. You can now make the "Close Menu" text say anything you want at all or else not appear. This means that all of the "default" items can be hidden now.

I have also made an attempt at fixing it so that "Close Menu" isn't needed. I doubt that there will ever be something as nice as and ordinary menu, but my idea helps a bit I guess. You can specify a time delay after which the menu will close if you don't interact with it. Moving the mouse over the menu will reset the delay. Unfortunately, I have just noticed that if you have an icon displayed in the system tray and allow the menu to time out then the icon will be removed from the system tray. Oops... As I'm at work you'll have to wait until tomorrow for it to be fixed.

Cheers,

Roger

yahoo! thanks oojah!

If anyone can host my Volume control, Winamp and Switch menu, pm me or send me e-mail. I have to make them a little more configurable, since they are now hard coded for my system.

By the way, I loved ShortPopUp!!

Have a nice day all!

Hi again,

Ok, DynMenu upgraded again. Time delayed closing of the menu doesn't break the system tray icon any more, you can disable the time delay closing by setting the delay = 0 and (something I saw someone complaining about in a different thread not related to DynMenu) you can specify where the menu appears - more specifically the horizontal position and vertical position relative to the mouse.

Cheers,

Roger

Oojah, your website is not working very well. Would it be possible if you could add the download for Dynmenu on the forum? Thanks in advance.

That's the problem with using a free provider I guess :)

Alternative download is available here.

Ooh and I've got some funky stuff in the works for DynMenu (well I like it anyway...)
