Why Must My Explorer Hangs On?

Urgent everybody,i need a quick reply!

after modding my systemfiles i found that my explorer hangs on after a reboot!

okay let me make myself a little bit understood!

you know, before replacing my sysfiles ,it's easy to reach my explorer, simply click on it and you will be there no more than one second.

but after replacing my sysfiles i have to wait for more than 20 secs to get in and see all my drives!

This happens to me ALL THE TIME! I still haven't figured out what the cause is....

is something bumping up the cpu usage? look at task manager and see what's using up cpu cycles or ram.

you could also undo your mods.

It could be due to the massive amount of icons you've added to the system files. The default size only goes up to 48x48 pixels. With the replaced files, you've added sizes 56x56, 72x72, 96x96 and 128x128. Not only are there more sizes to load, they are also larger, so they take even longer to load.

The same long load times happened to me until I manually took out all icons above 48x48. The color depts are still larger for the replaced icons, but the load times dropped dramatically for me after getting rid of uneeded icons. I even ditched the 24x24 size unless i know the icon will appear on the Start Menu.

that's why i use icons larger than 48x48, too much resources used up.

I'd say keep only the sizes you know you need. If you use 128x128 you don't need all of the sizes in-between.

If that is the reason things are moving slower, then you'll have to do a little manual work.

I'll tell you right now though, going through all of shell32.dll editing icons is a real pain. But if you want something done your way, you might as well get down and do it yourself.

i HATE it when that happens.
