why oh why, does the TABLET.exe service (I got a wacom tablet) suddenly run into a bug and quits itself?

It ****s up my work in photoshop and its very irritating. Its a service that runs the lil sucker. One important detail you guys need to know is that I have no serial input in my pc, so i use a special USB adaptor with a 'non-digitally' signed driver (it sais in the instructions it is OK to run it anyway). It works perfectly and used to work great till one day I just unplugged the usb cable from one port to a different one. Since then it refused to work no matter how perfectly I follow the so trivial installation instructions. So finally i plugged it back to the intial port and it started working good again, except the fact it goes nuts out of the blue every here and there.

I have NO FREAKING IDEA why it happens and I strongly doubt it has anything to do with the 'non-digitally-signed' driver (cause it was flawless before that and its simply working 95% of the time anyway).

Digitally signed drivers are those that've been tested for full compatibility with Windows...

Using unsigned drivers, you're just taking the manufacturer's word that their driver is ok (this is still the case, to a certain extent, with signed drivers, although they do go through more rigorous testing).

Have you tried getting the latest drivers?

yeah, but i believe its not the wacom tablet's problem as much as it sounds weird - cause unlike the usb adaptor, it has digitally signed drivers. And yeah i installed those drivers already. They recognized the adaptor and windows even recognized the adaptor.

I start suspect it has something to do with other 3rd party programs such as objectbar, maybe maybe something else. When objectbar has the hide menu bar option enabled it will **** 3dsmax and xsi and other heavy motion graphic application, even if i exclude them. The only reason I dont completely believe it may be the reason is because the tablet.exe is a mere SERVICE.

Sounds reasonable that you can blame it on a 3rd party program, My Wacom doesnt screw up (straight to USB) though, and i run an awfull lot of apps (WB4, OB, Y'z dock,AVEdesk, winFX) The only way to tell tho would be for you to test it by shutting down programs.

which is a painful thing to do.

I start believing its objectbar.

with my previous pc i had mobydoc, wfx, yz toolbar, objectbar and things ran without a problem. However, I never used the option to remove the menu bar.

Now its pretty much the same only with yz dock this time and newer versions of wfx2 and objectbar. But i doubt their newer versions mess it up. I unchkd the hide menu bar in ob, we'll see how it is. I'll leave the pc on for a while. If it goes on with me using the wacom tablet on a daily basis and its fine then ya'll know what to expect next time an app/ service gets messed up. Its rare, but it happens.

its MOST definitely the serial_usb adaptor.

I checked it over and over again with everything on and its almost guaranteeed to be the adaptor.

last night I left it on with the tool-pen staying on it so it'll be constantly on.

It crashed when i woke up so it has nothing to do with the customizing apps and i'm glad about that part.

i have encountered in cases when an adaptor is used to connect to usb that changing the usb port to which it was connected on install will make the program go nuts, ie, not work at all, it happened to me with a palm m100, it even made windows freeze, if you go back to the original port it still craps out on you? have you tried gettiong rid of every bit of the tablets instalation (registry included) and then reinstalling?

I t looks as tough that computer that my parents wont buy for me is not paying off now is it?

I'll just get a pci card with a serial on it. Simple, and much safer.

It was a waste of money and I wanna burn fry's down cause now my return period time is over.

I'll try the registry thing. I'll uninstall all that crap from scratch, see how it works.

no way.

its nothing to do with a fan, its all built and professionally checked infront of me. The computer runs like a charm, except its windows >.< . The OS is running faster and much better with so much more ram, so yeah i had couple of glitches but they were pure software, nothing to do with my hardware (see older "off" topics in here). I fixed those 'bugs' and its all good now, except THIS.

I can almost guarantee you that if i get a PCI card with serial input on it, it'll get recognized automatically. However I still dont think the non signed ones are the problem.

I'll try seph's idea, sounds probable - changing the usb port and bringing back was what happend to me.

But still, the whole case is ridiculous, while I install the drivers they automatically detect the NEW port with the com number.

I doubt his idea will work, but I gotta give it a shot before trying a new pci card. This adaptor works, and the driver is "working successfully". Everything is simply good till i start using the tablet A LOT - and thats weird. If i dont touch the tablet, no matter how long I use the computer it'll be fine.

lol so ill prove you its not even close to that, honestly, my machine works flawlessly - come on now flarex, my monitor & bed dont have anything to do with that problem either.

I have NO SERIAL ports on my machine, JUST USBs. again, ONLY USB ports. The only thing that can be bad is the adaptor (perhaps you mean the chips inside that muvafukker, but it didnt seem like it).

I guess its too 'new' to have serial ports in it. So i got a CABLE adaptor/bridge/connector that came with a CD and is a see through. In it you can see a lil electric board that is actually the convertor.

I installed it, went nice till i abused the wacom like I always did before. It probably doesnt like it. So for SURE its ONLY this device and its drivers. Perhaps it cannot catch up with the speed or vice versa. Nothing else, not the wacom tablet either.

So the problem coud be:

1) Microsoft

2) Windows

3) Aqua-soft staff

4) Device's drivers

5) Defected device.

I would say 1-3 has a probable chance over 4-5 :moon:

good news, well sord of (bad news for flarex):

there 3 options to choose for the serial adaptor:

1) bridge

2) cable

3) port

thats right, bridge sounded the most accurate, but it sucked.

Port sounded correct as if its actually making a serial port. My ass.

Cable seemed to sound simple and insufficient, however it did the job (so far :s)

I figured what was the problem and its a shame we all couldnt see it laying between the lines all along. Its funny cause the chance that one of us ccould have seen that is huge, but we didnt hahaha. bah.

I did a similar thing to what seph said. I uninstalled all drivers that were related to this case inlcuding the wacom tablet.

Rebooted.

Then I let bill gates look up the new drivers himself, and he did. The funny thing was he actually retrieved the name of that device and when i tried using the installation CD that came along with it, it gave me the digitally-signed shiz, and so i ignored it and "stopped" it. He then automatically installed it for me, i guess from its prepared drivers.

Then when I installed wacom, it never asked me if the tablet was serial or usb, even if before it successfully managed to find the right COM port. Now it was just plain automatic and flawless. Been using the tablet since the last post and its like a charm.

I clearly remember that in the begining it never gave me a warning of the digitally signed drivers since I didnt force it to the XP folder of its CD. I just had it look it up in general (I guess including the CD).

The final conclusion is:

be aware of non-digitally signed drivers. Dont let them fool you, they are unstable.
