V L C Will Play Your Tv Card

I use a Hauppage TV card in my computer and remembered a few months ago that there was talk of Linux users being able to use VLC for their TV card.

Well, doing a bit more digging tonight, I found that the Windows version 0.7.0 now supports TV cards.

Just choose Open, then go to the DirectShow Input tab.

Click refresh next to Video Device.

Choose your card from the list(might be named something like '*DEVICENAME* Capture'

Click OK, and watch TV in VLC

*NOTE: There is not yet a way to choose a channel, that I can find, so it uses the last active channel used in your TV app.

One advantage to this is less flicker and fewer dock related faults

Thanks, I gotta try this coz ATi's TV app is really pissing me off now

d-scaler (www.dscaler.org) is best. -_- iit has thousands of options, changes channels with the mouse-wheel and it doesn't even need drivers, cause it communicates directly with the hardware. :naughty:

but i'll also try the VLC thing... i love vlc -_-

Yeah, I have dscaler installed, but it still flickers and VLC uses less mem

I mentioned this here when the version of VLC that can do it first came out. ;)

My thread

This used to pop up a directshow dialog for the tv tuner so you can tune the channells but it doesn't now that I have it in skins mode. It was either changed since the last time I tried it or it only pops that up when you are in wxWindows mode for the main controller.

Oh yeah, and DScaler hated my computer. I was trying to configure it to work with my TV tuner and it caused a blue screen. =Þ

BTW, if you have a Hauppage WinTV card there is a VMR9 option in their current software which makes it not flicker and you can screenshot it like a regular window. You have to run primary.exe and pick it from there.

:: edit - I use y'z dock

I use Y'z Dock too. And it doesn't flicker using the latest drivers\program and choosing "Allow VMR (WinXP only, implies Allow Overlay) as the video display mode in primary.exe. At least on my system.

There's a new release for VLC. v0.7.1 - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

There are 2 skin controls I was waiting for: speed up, speed down.

However, more interestingly is that there is a new skin interface: Skin2.

Skin2 comes with a default skin of the old VLC for Mac OSX interface. Great news for those who wanted that one. : ) The changes I noticed are as follows: new XML tags incompatible w/ Skin1 format, PNG is allowed - smaller sized files, but transparency is still handled like bitmaps, and resizable playlist.

edit: duh, found the VLC forums.

I wonder if it VLC will play the TwinHan DVB-T Digital TV Card (Australia).

Next time I'm on the net, I will download and see.

PS. For those with the TwinHan DVB-T card's, I am making (slowly) a skin with a Mac OS Style
