Something Is Off, I Need Your Help Please

Every here and there, after I restart, and right before the logon screen comes up, windows pops this message that MSGINA.DLL cannot be loaded correctly "... please contact your administrator to retrieve or restore a new MSGINA.DLL".

I'd like to know what to do, since I have no idea why it comes up with that message. Of course, Ive already replaced the msgina.dll with iceman's original tweaked MSGINA.DLL (and that shouldnt cause any problems) and things went on pretty normal till something went wrong and this message popped back again which had me to hit F8 the next boot and load "the most recent working settings for windows". Loading that setting actually bypassed the "broken" msgina.dll which doesnt make sence to me, since I believe that dll is low level and is used for ALL accounts.

why is this happening if at all?

im not sure but maybe there is a program/resource/dll that is needing the presence of msgina.dll, which is odd, but so is your case....

Have you installed anything that could be teh line between not having the problem and having it?

Also any recent updates you did may affect it as well. I know when i just updated with all the updated it put all my mods back to normal, or gave me some errors here and there

I don't know if this can help you:

.....Sometimes third-party remote-access products not originally designed for Win XP will use a Registry setting to replace MSGINA.dll with their own files. If you've installed a remote-access product recently, your best bet is to uninstall it. If not, you can untweak the Registry to force the system to use the original MSGINA.dll file.

Launch REGEDIT from the Start menu's Run command and navigate to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon. In the right-hand pane you should find a value named GinaDLL; the data for this value may give a clue as to which program caused the change. Rename the value to NOT_GinaDLL, so you can undo the change if necessary. Once you change the value, Windows will use the correct file and reenable Fast User Switching. You may need to restart Windows before activating FUS.

I got XP non sp1.

thing is, it has never happend to me before. I should actulally re-replace MSGINA.dll again and avoid the updates. I can almost say that this crap happend practically ALWAYS after evil MS updates.

Sorry to tripple post, but anyway -

i tried the regedit and i couldnt find that key, so i dont know about that solution.

I tried the documentaion photo linked me to but i ran into this:

"Recovering from a GINA-related System Failure

Recovery is possible without reinstalling the system. This requires having a boot disk, or equivalent workaround, that will boot the system without using a normal hard disk boot.

To recover from this situation:

Boot the auxiliary system-potentially by using a boot disk.

Go to the System32 folder where the new, failed GINA DLL is located.

Move the failed GINA to a different folder.

Copy the original MSGINA DLL in the System32 folder and rename it with the name of the failed GINA.

Restart the computer and the original MSGINA DLL will load under the new name. At this point fixes can be made in the modified GINA.

what i dont get is why is it having a "gina" different name to the failed one? is there another MSGINA type of dll that i dont know of which other softwares use? It could make sence, and as i said earlier, whenever I select "latest working settings" it works fine and I bet it uses MY msgina.dll (and probably not the other one).

thing is, I'm not sure if there is another different msgina.dll that forces windows to use it cause I couldnt find anything with the name GINA or anything related to it (or maybe i dont know how to look a MSGINA oriented dll).

I figured that this happens rarely and probably due to microevil updates.

I'd appreciate any help or explainations on that -

so i guess these two files arent related to each azza.

hm - so nobody had such problem before that they manage to pin point what causes that message to pop after every windows update? and why when i return back to the "working settings" (under F8 mode) it works ok?

maybe msconfig can help?

I've had that same messge after modding my MSGINA.DLL, and couldn't bypass it or get on my computer at all! The only way I fix it was taking out my harddrive, and switch it to slave, and put it in a friend's computer, and replace the file with his original one.

you could have just used the recovery console to replace the file with the backup.

1) I'm an idiot.

2) ...because I didn't make a backup of any kind.

3) I popped in the recover disk and it just went to DOS and I havn't used DOS in god knows how long, I had no idea what to do.

so i restarted several times after this last incident and all went fine.

I still dont understand that why would it go off if its the same freaking msgina.dll ?

and assuming it happens after each windows update (a rough assumption), then why wouldnt it load correctly after installing a new msgina.dll off of their evil servers?

now you know how I felt

see? it wasnt that i was doing it to arbitrarily piss people off...it takes alot of work to notify people. TOO much work

noone gets notified if a topic os closed or moved or changed or anything

you have to do that manually

now, imagine THAT workload
