hey guys, bunkka here. well i thought it might be interesting to start a thread on which genre you have converted to lately [ which genre have you recently discovered? ]. well i think this should be a very fun thread to see what people's taste in music is nowadays.

Me personally:None i listen to all genres, but i would like to convert people to the underground world of electronica. you know none of that cookie cutter s*** thats mainstream (or on mtv), stuff that has been made from the soul, not from a wallet [ like jazz, blues, ambient, reggae....etc ]. Im not going to be a fire and brimstone lecturer about this, but....people who say it takes not tallent to make electronica [ all sub genres in elctronica ] is just flat out hilarious.

My observations of EDM [ electronic dance music ] bashers:

1. doesn't feel music, and cant get passed the audio/visual part of a particular genre.

2. listens to genres that his/her friends listen to.

3. just started listening to music, and is figuring out his/her taste.

[ there are more but, not a fire & brimstone session ]

can anyone explain to me why people cannot get passed the deep bass/drum line in edm? why cant they listen to the melody, not the beat that makes you drop your feet. these are tallented musicians, they can play so many diff. instruments, and they compose such euphoric music [ like Mozart ]. granted it is repititious, but hey if it wasn't, it would be calld em [ electronic music ].

i know you guys will flame me about this subject [ get it a lot at school ] but hey, close minds have great qualities [ figuring out which ]. but ya.

Also List all the genres and subgenres that you listen to.

hey bunkka, i'm glad to know there are other dnb-heads on the boards. personally, i'm a huge fan of the liquid-funk style of dnb... musicians such as High Contrast, Calibre, E-Z Rollers, etc. Also, i'm big into Trance-n-bass, like Concord Dawn and John B.

recently, though, i can't get enough of DJ Danger Mouse's awesome production of Jay-Z - The Grey Album. check it out, it's really good.

anyway, i've gotta say that i agree with you about 'converting' people... i've made a few converts in my day. the trick is to do it gradually, get music that sounds like what they listen to, but slightly different, and progress more in the direction that you're pressing. i got a girl friend of mine listening to hard house/trance from stuff like Hanson (okay not that bad, but it makes a good story )... so it can be done!

Most shred albums that have been made with the spirit of heavy metal in mind is what I listen to...

I'm not talking about this new-age wannabe-punk bull**** like Linkin Park, Staind, Limp Bizkit, Godsmack or newer Metallica (*cough*....sell-outs....*cough*....bastards)

I'm referring to the the people that made the 80s stand out from any other decade, the heroes who would forge masterpieces in stainless steel that would entrench hundreds of thousands of fans into the world known as heavy metal. Yes, I am referring to the kings of steel like Manowar, Iron Maiden, (old) Metallica, Judas Priest, Accept, AC/DC, Pantera, Blind Guardian, Megadeth, Savatage, Black Sabbath and Slayer.

And I just wanna send out a personal (hate) message to those who listen to nu-metal (THIS IS NOT ****ING METAL!!!) and think they listen to "metal". Get out of the dream world that MTV makes you believe that Linkin Park are hardcore (ahahahhahaahahaha!!!!!) unless you wanna remain a ****in poser all your life.

i accidentally downloaded a few songs from Halo, an experimental metal band that uses surfaces and distorted echoes of guitars to create ambient sound pieces. I got hooked major. Very sludgy and subconcious grinds here and there. I checked out the label which turned out to be the kind of label that u just feel u can agree with. Relapse Records, merely any stuff out there can reach the maturity of the artists relapse support.

I started falling for grindcore indirectly cause of Halo. Today is the Day is what i've been into for a couple of months now.

Sid, i gotta disagree with u, yea nu-metal mostly consists of lowlife children running around with their rap-rock la la tunes, there are a few bands that are just too hard, way too hard and smart to be stereotyped. (check out NoAssemblyRequired)...thats the only one i can think of right now.

i still listen to thievery corporation, lamb and Arkestra One at random.

Really? "Fear Of The Dark" ranks pretty low on my list of Maiden albums. The ones that top my list are 'The Number Of The Beast', 'Piece Of Mind' and 'Powerslave'.

@Ashkan: Yeah you're right in saying that all nu-metal isn't crap (I think so too) and I didn't mention it in my post. It's just that the amount of commercial nu-metal crap out there far outnumbers any good "nu-metal".

For example technically speaking Chimaira are nu-metal, but they are ****in amazing. (I'd like to say Killswitch Engage are nu-metal too, but it's just not right coz they combine virtually every aspect of metal).

So ya sorry about that but I just can't stand these ****in posers who think they're hardcore coz it pisses the **** out of me to see someone dressed like a headbanger wearing a Staind T-shirt.... :rant:

Ive been really into medieval/symphonic metal lately, Luca Turilli, Rhapsody and so on... what do you think?

I've listened to metal (the sort you speak of sid, not to stress you out ) since i was quite little, when everyone else listened to damn new kids on the block and that crap!, they called me the satanic kid , that kind of music was not very welcome while i lived in Panama, they actually used AC/DC and Black Sabbath to make Noriega go away from teh apostolic church in which he was seeking asylum, i was listening closely :rule: :own:

Soon, NIN wrapped me in their industrial magic and has become my favourite group as Industrial one of my favourite types of music.

well i still like some linkin park songs because they have one of the most diverse groups out their [turntablist->drummer->guitarist->vocalist].

You obviously haven't heard of slipknot. 9 band members, including a DJ (yep just like LP :6). Good thing they're breaking up. They still have enuff members for 2 bands.. :6

lol, ive definitally heard of slipknot. but i wasn't talking about slipknot, i was talking about linkin park, two diff types of genres there. but in all actuality i like stonesour better [ singer from slipknot, not like u didn't know ]. but u cant hear all of band members instruments at the same time with slipknot. i dont hate the genre, but i dont love it, its just there.

Been listening to Punk, Ska, Alternative, and whatever's on KROCK (www.krockradio.com , www.krock.com , www.kroq.com) Just got into Rap in this millenium and dance music and some old rock like Black Sabbath and whatnot. Oh yea, Twisted Sister's "We're not gonna take it" is the theme song for my hockey team and we're hoping to go to state's (NY) this year.

I can (and do) listen to most genres of music, but tend towards hip-hop ("proper" hip-hop, not played out chart rubbish like Nelly), soul (Marvin, Aretha, Sam & Dave, and so forth), some R'n'B (Blackstreet, Tyrese, and a few others), various forms of "rock" (all the way from Mindless Self Indulgence, through The Ramones, to Dire Straits).

The odd thing with me is that I neither focus on one genre nor "skim the surface" of lots - I have a vast collection of music going very in-depth into vast swathes of musical genres.

Currently listening to: The Ramones' self-titled debut, J-Live's "Always Will Be", and Sam & Dave's "The Best Of Sam & Dave".

I personally will listen to whatever I like, and can respect other people's opinions and views, as long as they are founded on reason, and not "I don't like [artist X] because they're crap" - no artist is "crap" - they may have no talent for what they're doing, but that doesn't make them "crap" - there's bound to be someone who likes 'em for what, to them, is a valid reason.

Hey all,

I meant the fear of the dark single, didn't realise it is an album as well. I'm not exactly good at naming music. I like most iron maiden stuff I've heard, but I couldn't name much of it. Also, no matter what anyone else thinks of them, I say that Green Day are great!

Does anyone else listen to Texas at all? If not, go listen to the album "White On Blonde", it really is pretty damn good.

I really do keep an open mind about music.

Classical is not always peaceful it does have some very loud parts in it.

I really like Jurrasic 5, Blink 182, Yes okay I like Linkin Park (especially their remix CD: Reanimated), James Taylor, Billy Joel, I liked Moby, I don't know if he's still going? I also like alot of others but there isn't enough time for me to think about them or list them all.

So as you can see I like alot of Genre's, yes these bands/singers may not all be the: "Real Deal"

If anyone has any suggestions as to what the "Real Deal" is in these Genre's please feel free to PM me, thank you.
