is anyone else having problems with running windows update or is something wrong with my system that's not allowing it to run? it's been like this probably since monday or tuesday for me.

Have you done any modding to .dll files or anything like that? 
Some times when modding system files will not let you go into windows update.

basically the same things that a majority of the people here do... flyakite's system files pack and on top of that, stefanka's pack... in one of the threads, he said it would not be harmful to have both installed.
well, now that we know that's it's my computer, does anyone know what i should do to reinstall it? there's a folder in my program files, "WINDOWSUPDATE" with a subfolder "V4"... should i just delete these files, then the site will know to re-install it?

no, just it was unable to contact the server (as it says)
i had to do windows updates for a lab at school (i work for their computer department) and the last few that i was working on were very sluggish (and one got that error). just try again.
or maybe it does have something to do withy modded .dll's
On my PC at home, I had a .dll mod pack on it, don't know if that's what caused it. But it cannot access windows update. windowsupdate tells me I need to be using Internet Explorer. I've never bothered really researching it, as I don't update that pc. It's on the internal network, so I just keep my only pc visible to the outside world patched.
