Mobydock Ideas & Feature Requests

Hey Moby, one thing I just thought of that I don't think would be too hard to implement. Since you are implementing pop-up menus anyways you might as well implement a pop-up menu for the dock itself, like with the real one. You know, when you click on the dock near the seperator a pop-up menu shows which reveals a few dock options like position and stuff. If anyone doesn't know what I mean or has never used the real dock before, go to apple.com and check out the dock videos. It shows it very clearly. But then again you might have already done this! If so then I say AWSOME!!! If not then, see what you can do. Can't wait! You rule Moby!

EDIT: Oh and Ken. I don't know if you knew this, but dragging the seperator really does adjust the size of the dock. Just thought I might want to let you know that, that's real.

Your suggestion about a pop-up menu for the dock settings, would also save 1 icon space in the dock, now being occuppied by the Mobydock Control Panel icon.

Have you ever got into trouble, trying to click something that lies below the dock?

How about having a key that temporarily hides the dock?

(i.e. hold down "Win" key while mouse is over the dock, allow clicks to the program underneath, and reappear when the key is released)

I have a quest . U all know that the difference betwean 10.1 and 10.2 in the Dock area is that the dock has the separator line all transparent , not a straight line at 100% transparency .

But on 10.2 that line does not exist , it is replaced with a free space betwean the left part and right part of the dock

I have an idea, I don't know if its possible so don't rag

It would be cool if you were able to make a plugin type function for a transition type effects. Make a genie like effect using the plugin engine. And have it so others can make effects for it.

Similar to how WindowsFX2.0 has transition effects. But since your porting your dock to DX9 which means over to the Gfx card to do the work. It's possible, now I dont know anything about programing. So does anyone know if it will work?

Dock-style pop-up menus?... those with an "arrow" pointing to the icon in the dock.

Noticed that when I drag an item in mobydock, i always get a low-res icon (even if the file i drag is a 128x128 .ico). Any intention to fix this?

Also, when dragging a png show the picture in mobydock rather than the png icon.

It displays the png image because it's not an app. So it's like having a text file in your tray.

I was just fiddeling on my dual G4 and thought I'd make a list of what differences there are between the OSX dock and MobyDock 0.67. Here it is;

Menu's for running tasks (applications):

-Quit

-Keep In Dock

Menu's for folders and running folders:

-Hierarchial menu's

-Drag and Drop (using modifer key to expand onmouseover)

Running task icons:

-Running application icon overlay for all running tasks

Window snapshots:

-for all tasks and running tasks such as movies

Minimize effects:

-Genie effect

I have 2 configuration requests:

1) The ability to add the "Start In" directory. I have a few apps that, if there is no "Start In" directory in the link, they try and start in whatever directory the link is in. And if the config files aren't in that directory, the app bombs.

2) The ability to add a "Show Desktop" link. I know you can open the desktop window, but I just want to beable to minimize all the open windows, so I can get to the desktop. I've tried the "Desktop" system setting in the doc, but all it does is open the Desktop directory. It doesn't minimize all open apps.

Other than that, this is a GREAT app. I love it!

show all hidden files.

goto c:\documents and settings\??????username??????\application data\microsoft\internet explorer\quick launch\

right click on "show desktop.scf" create shortcut------> drag to dock.

there you go... minimizes all desktop windows. It works.... well, it IS the same as the icon on the default quick launch.

For the Dock's running task, opening a program will make the program icon appear on the right hand side after the separator. It will take a screenshot and genie into the left side only after it is minimized. The program icon on the right side stays there. When you click on the screenshot, that window genies out from the dock..i.e. no longer shown there, but the program icon will still stay on the right side of the dock. It disappears when the program is closed and if the program is not pinned to the dock. Clicking on the program icons brings up a menu showing all the windows for the same group if the program is alreay running. If the program isn't running, clicking it starts the program.

That is how the dock works.
