Really Bad News

My comp got infected with a virus, I've lost Smooth Stripes (Black) among other skins that were infected. The comps ok now but the skins long dead. :rant: :cry:

I can't believe i'd almost finished it and all.

Anyway, back to square one. I've got Smooth Stripes 4 as a starting point but I would appreciate help with the following:

• The apple start button icon, not the .ai logo, there is no way I can convert that to a decent image (I've only got Fireworks MX 2004 at the moment).
  
• Someone to edit the Shellstyle.dll (I keep asking, I'll give you the files needed but I don't know how to change what actually appears)
  
• A better way to do this than StyleBuilder... (I'm not Reshacking this, that's what got me stuck in the first place with StyleBuilder)
  

Note: Mental Comfort would be much appreciated right now... :cry:

it was the compiled resource tha got infected. I didn't save the image files as I was just trying to do the shellstyle file.

btw, any file can be infected or corupted by a virus, it depends how they are opened as to whether it is worth it in the long run.

I think the virus attempted to infect the XP Luna files so that it could execute without notice as part of the system files. (Unfortunately, I was using SSBlack at the time)

I've made a lot of progress on it already, I've replaced most of Smooth Stripes 4 Panther with the black version I made, I'm currently doing the scrollbars (At least this time I wont make the same misake with the settings).

Well, it's too late now, I've started a fresh and mcafee removed the msstyles file.

List of the files I lost with it:

UXtheme.dll

blackbox.dll

cmcfg32.dll

and mshtmled.dll

It was in an e-mail attachment that Outlook executed when I open the mail. It may just have infected random dlls before mcaffee caught it and in the process corrupted the msstyles files, i don't know, mcaffee just deleted them.

neway, as I said, progress is much smoother now than it was. I hope to have it ready in a couple of weeks. Although I still need someone to edit the Shellstyles file for me as no matter how many times I edit the bitmaps the common tasks bar looks the same.

Quick Update:

Due to me being busy with college work I haven't finished the VS yet, it should be done soon though. There will be one limitation with the version I release though and that is that it will have the black text problem that has been mentioned about JetBlack.

This is not my fault and there is nothing I can do about it, it's a problem shared by MS's Luna and Apple Aqua systems, they just were not designed for black themes.

When I make the Windowblinds version the glitch will be fixed as Windowblinds uses it's own theming system the author can enforce the High Contrast setting of the Classic Windows interface to make the dialog text white.

Progress has been made on a colour mock up, once that's ready I'll post a poll here as to what colours people like.

@FlareX: Labtec has the old beta version of Smoothstripes (Black), The one I'd only done the Gloss version of. If you meant me, the .msstyle is usable but not finished at the moment and unless someone helps me with the shellstyles file i'm not going to have one.

Thanks Labtec. I never found a tutorial for it (this is my first VS remember) so I tried to edit it myself. Problem was everytime I did I got a different glitch, e.g. full sidebar titles, no graphics for the sidebar, etc.

The screenshot looks cool, will finish off SmoothStripes ASAP. I now can't wait to release it.

I believe I still have it on my site for download. I keep things up there a long time (Black smoothstripes that is). Perhaps you can use that?

Just a tip, I don't know much about skinning but there *is* a fix for the Photoshop bug. in msstyles. Perhaps someone reading this thread can give you a direct link to the details of the fix? If I find it I'll let you know.

And I definitely can't wait for the Windowblinds version. I hope you're doing a rollup button and a 0 pixel (or very very thin) border!

I have the old msstyle but labtec created a shellstyle and tried to send it to me but talk21 didn't like it and wont let me access it.

The thing that has made it take so long is the amount of other work i am doing right now
