O/t: System Slow At User Switch

hey all.

On my user account i i use windowblinds for a mac osx look. I alsot use object dock and OB. On my wife's account, she has window blinds with no other additions. When i switch from user to user, it takes a good 20-30 secs and the screen pops up slowly.

What do you recommend I upgrade?

I would blame if on the little amount of RAM you have. 20-30 secs isnt too bad though, as a user switch typicaly takes 10 or so on my athlon 2600 wt 1.5 gigs ram. The problem is realy kinda XP. The graphics card has like absolutly nothing to do with it if your problem isnt with games, and upgrading to a 2000 woulnt be that much of a speed increase at all, and as long as the motherboard runs stable, you dont have a problem there either.

More ram will ALWYAS speed up your computer (well to a point anyhow, once you got like a gig theres not much increase) Spend 50-70$ and get a stick of 512. I HIGHLY recomend kingston valueram.

You wont notice a increase when you first start up, but XP likes to casche stuff into the ram (idk if thats the technicaly correct term, but it works). That is it likes to put programs and drivers and that kinda stuff into the ram, so rather then pull it off a realy slow hard drive, it pulls it off the speedy ram. When you dont have egnouf RAM XP cant do this. SO youll notice a VERY big speed increase in user changes once its happend once already (ie you log out and log back in).

edit i say your using sdram, you might be better off getting a new motherboard and making the move to DDR ram, cause SDRAM is realy expensive cause theres no market for it.
