Are You Building A New Pc? Read This

Here is what you WILL get if you want current high-end games. It will run approximately $1200 right now if you use newegg.com and pricewatch.com to get your hardware.

PROCESSOR: AMD 64 3200+ (yes, i have compared hardware to intel.)

RAM: OCZ pc3200 dual channel 1024MB

VIDEO CARD: Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB

MOTHERBOARD: get an Asus...the top end one that fits AMD 64s. Lanparty is also good too.

MODEM: no

NETWORK CARD: two are included in the motherboard if you pick properly. yes, two integrated ones. thats why you should pay $160 for a motherboard instead of $120.

CASE: Thermaltake Xaser 3 unless someone has another option that comes with 7 fans pre-installed (water cooling is expensive...if you are a hardcore overclocker your computer will die sooner anyways. im guessing you wont overclock much if at all. you just need to keep it cooler than 60 C.

KEYBOARD/MOUSE: use your old one.

MONITOR: did i just say use your old one? use pricewatch or newegg if you really want to upgrade. it will cost you extra.

POWER SUPPLY: look up all the power wattages and get one for about $50 bux, maybe $100 if you are a high roller that wants your gold plated (just kidding. 50-60 is fine)

IMHO this thread is pointless - buying a PC is all about personal preference and opinion - so I'd disagree with alot of that:D

CPU - no point in the AMD64 yet. Wait till theres a decent, stable 64 bit version of windows about, unless you use Linux. By then there will be close to 4.5GHz 64 bit processors and you'll want to be upgrading again.

GFX card - 9800 XT 256mb if you are really going for hardcore gaming.

RAM - Crucial is alot more reliable than OCZ

Motherboard - MSI boards include gigabit lan on one of the onboard NICs so is a better futureproof (on the high end versions of their boards)

CASE - now this really is down to personal preference. Xaser cases are fugly if you ask me! One of my housemates has one and it's hideous. Grab a nice alu Lian-li or a Chieftec Dragon.

Keyboard / mouse - pickup something that will match your case

Power supply - You are going to need something around 400W minimum to keep all this stable, especially if you are going to be powering alot of fans. Antec Truepower are very nice - quiet, and have very steady rails.

See - making a post about what you think people should buy is a bit pointless if no-one has said "I'm looking for a pc that can do this in this price range" as I'm sure everyone here could come and voice their opinion on what makes a good PC

If this was a- this should have been posted in the thread in which someone asked about building the PC.

If this was b - this should have been posted a spec thread.

If this was c - this should never have been posted and is a waste of space. I mean really, who cares what this person thinks people should build following his rather plainish list.

The whole PC means Personal Computing, not following some list, each person who wishes to build a PC is faced with personal decisions, and personal taste. Not to mention usage, stylings, cost restraints etc which would be 100 different configurations for 100 people.

5) The case - I recommend Pizza Hutt, but donatos is good too.
