April Action Update

well half-life 2 is pushed back yet again (figures...) and so its making me start to think that the whole stealing-code deal was a big scam. it might not have been, but they are using it as an excuse for an unfinished game. tweaking code doesnt take 8 months with that many ppl working on it.

as for halo 2, microsoft is too chicken to fight the big 3 (except quake 4...said to be released late this year or early 2005) im guessing. they say its not finished but the engine is complete. they ahve fully functioning screenshots (which im guessing means they ahve the physics engine done and weapons..etc just maybe not level work) but anywho, they are just chicken.

so pick one of the 2 remaining shooters. if you don't know...doom3 is geared towards awesome single player (they have shadowing per polygon!) and ut2004 is a pure multiplayer game (if any of you 'smart aqua-soft people' post about how it has a single player mode, so did quake 3. obviously, that wasnt what it was meant for.) ut2004 has vehicles, doom3 will have awesome graphics.

Half-Life's 2 Source Code was indeed leaked. I've seen the game compiled and running.

Looks nice, but it's still PC... Nothing will ever beat Console Gaming. Period.

Always upgrading a PC so that you can get 2 or 3 more FPS running on UT... Geez...

The only advantage point of PC gaming is the high definition that the dot pitch of a PC Monitor gives to games... But attach a VGA Box to your PS2, Xbox, Gamecube or Dreamcast and you'll have something that no PC will ever do.

Don't get me wrong, I have tons of fun playing HALO at home using PCs... But after playing HALO for Xbox, you can see every single flaw of the PC version.

Sorry, I didn't intend to start a platform war! ^^;

Sometimes it just happens.

#113450

The main reason why I use PC's is b/c of multiplayer FPS's (<- that's 1st person shooters, not frames per second) (Y)

xbox, pc what's the difference ;)

#113480

If I can run these games on a 500MHz PIII, 128 MB o' RAM and an nVidia TNT2 Ultra, than I don't care which one I'll play. I would just be happy.

The difference is that to play Halo you need a DECENT ++ PC. Athlon XP 1700, 128Mb Ram, 64Mb DDRRAM card...

But somehow, the Xbox manages to run it with a 733mhz Processor, 64Mb RAM and a nVidia 64Mb Video Card and nothing else that's really fancy. Except for the HUGE transfer speeds within the Xbox... I think it was like 20+ GBps.

And the Xbox only has DirectX 8. ^^;

XBox is a dedicated machine. A desktop has to manage Windows (and it 20 Bajillion apps running in the background) and Halo. XBox has the Operating System (Which I gaurantee is less then 1/10 the size of WindowsXP) and Halo.

#113495

Actually, technically, you could run Windows on an Xbox. The big problem of a PC is exactly that Windows is bad designed. And even then, PC architecture in general is useless for videogames (in terms of performance/requirements). That's a fact, was always like that, will always be like that.

But of course, the Xbox is the worst of the Next Gen platforms... PS2 works a lot better, has better performance... And it's already outdated.

ok ok , i know... :canadian:

Yeah, but could you run WinXP AND Halo? I know that you can run WinXp on an XBox. I am so on the system I stated above.

#113503

Probably. You can solder an extra 64Mb of RAM to the Xbox's motherboard. I'm sure it would run perfectly.

#113507

@goku is that crying baby part in max pain 2, like in the first max pain. that part was F'

d'ed up.

#113583

Probably one of the reasons I didn't like Max Payne... A dead baby? They are just sick...

About your previous post. The X-box has 64mb TOTAL. Not 64MB for the system and 64MB for the "video card". It's unified. And the video chip is somewhere between a GeForce 3 and 4.

As for the "Always has always will be" comment. That's not something that can be really known unless you are pyschic and can see how PC's will progress in the future. I remember N64 players saying that the PC will NEVER have graphics as good as Mario64. It's very easy to believe that all PC's are slow if you haven't used a decent fast PC (not saying you haven't, but that's not the point). I have seen games run with good performance on PC.

As for Halo... well whenever you port something there will always be some differences. That being said I thought the company who ported it did a good job.

Also, which console is the worst of the "Next Gen" platforms, which I would technically call Current Gen (I consider Next Gen to be PS3, X-box2 and whatever Nintendo is working on). It is a matter of opinion and personal preference. They all have good quality visuals but the fact is that the PS2 doesn't have as much memory for textures as the Gamecube or X-box. I don't see how that makes it better. The only thing that would make it better is if a programmer knew how to program for it better over another console.

Technically if you think in generic terms you should be able to run XP on the X-box. But the x-box doesn't have your typical off the shelf motherboard and I doubt there is drivers for it in XP. Not to mention the built in software that isn't written so you can install it either. You can however hack linux onto there and run windows through a virtual environment.

Doom3 and Halo 2 will be Released around the same time ....

NOW WHO ARE YOU TO SAY THAT!? You are THE<<< stupidest person i know. THE ABSOLUTE STUPIDEST! dont you dare ever diss me and what i say. you want PROOF? Im not yelling at you just to yell. I'm yelling aty ou because you messed up. you are oging to apologize to me. Here ya go! =)

so...CHECK THIS OUT!!! And you'd better pm me with that apology:

Halo 2's release date!

Doom 3's current release date!

thats ravi113 with two 1's. get it right next time. =)

anyways, now that i need to defend myself...heres a tidbit of info for you about half-life 2.

In his latest Game Over column, CNN/Money correspondent Chris Morris quotes Valve director of marketing Doug Lombardi as saying the developer is "is currently targeting this summer for the completion of Half-Life 2." Last October, VU Games, Half-Life 2's publisher, had said the game would be released in April 2004. As to the new ship date's veracity, a VU Games spokesperson would only confirm Lombardi's quote. "He said that," said the representative, "but VU is officially not commenting on the release date." E-mails to Lombardi were not returned as of press time.

If true, the delay would be just the latest setback in Half-Life 2's long, bumpy road to release. For those just emerging from cryogenic sleep, the game has suffered several delays, both before and after hackers stole part of its source code last September. Subsequently, pirated copies of the game have reportedly hit the black market in Russia.

(from half-life 2...yeah i know the source code was real. but my point is that they used it as an excuse.

@ravil13: don't get too excite buddy, cos you'll have to apologize Felix. Is it a sin to mess up sometimes? -_-
