I see that you need some help...

Nice to see where you start off dragging the player, and where the last bit was.

Yea, I can see the irony in your post. :banging:

Edit: Might make a great wallpaper! :woot:

So a pretty regular day then? ;)

It's fun to get three or four windows to do that and make pretty patterns.. Oh the solutions to boredom on Windows. God bless Windows.

/Me chokes with sarcasm.

#112926

umm...like we don't know about this?

#112928

ok ok...I'm not funny...I know geeeezzzz ;)

#112934

Does this NEVER happen on Apple's machines? Or on a Linux system?

#112961

i've had dragging problems before but i've never been able to fill up my whole screen. :D

#112962

Looks like iTunes agree with Outkast's Grammy wins.

It basically never happens on OSX, and on linux, I've found it depends on what desktop environment you use.

GTK2 apps seem to do that a lot. Once the freedesktop.org xserver is done though, Linux will work as well as OSX in this regard.

What the hell man, why can't MS get ahead of the curve on this one then? It's 2004 for crying out loud.

Haha, welcome to the world of windows and too little memory as well I guess. Gotta love it.

#112986

yeah...the 1 GB of Ram doesn't quite cut it....LOL

#112990

Mine does that too. I can hear it coming from Microsoft:

It's not a bug, it's a "visual effect."

Geeze.

#112992

Ouch with 1GB reminds me why sometimes I dread having a PC, imagine if windows wasn't customizable. I would be having nightmares about not having OS X.

Hehehe, actually, SpyderFCS, you ARE funny. No one has ever posted a picture of their flooded desktops... I bet that Microsoft is trying to create Guided User Interfaces for Bugs. Yeah, that must be it! ^^

#113003

Exactly, even with 1 gig of RAM look at it!!! Sometime I wish I had a> anthrax spores, and b> Bill Gates' address. (Please don't call the FBI, I'm joking.)

I've been trying to sell my comp, which has respectable specs for a laptop (512mbRAM), and everyone is saying, why?

Now I have this on my HD ... for handy reference.

Is it iTunes with Solitaire's game effect?

#113008

This has nothing to do with your RAM. Sometimes you can't just throw hardware at the problem. ;)

The problem is that Windows rendering engine is basically done in software with crappy ancient technology. The OSX rendering is hardware accelerated using PDFs.

the freedesktop.org xserver will also be hardware accelerated with a PDF based rendering system.

Its more complicated than that, but basically OSX's GUI systems are designed much better.

Now this makes good sense. :) Is Windows taking similar steps with Longhorn?

Exactly.

What people forget is that GDI, Windows' current rendering technology, was written way back in '93-'94, and has only been upgraded a little, whereas OSX has an entirely new-for-OSX rendering system using hardware acceleration.

This sorta thing is what Avalon in Longhorn is designed to counter. Which would you rather have had? XP when it was released, or been stuck with 9x OS' for a few more years whilst MS wrote an entirely new OS*?

The way I see it is that XP's miles better than 9x series OSs, and that something mind-blowing is entering Beta this year, so rather a bit of a wait for something truly awesome than be stuck with something truly awful whilst they skipped XP.

Oh, and I know people are going to come with arguments like "but Apple did OSX", or "but Linux did...". Apple were doing a complete rewrite with OSX. D'you really think that they'd say something like "Well, we thought that, as we were doing an entirely new OS, we'd use the same old graphics engine". No, it was logical for them to create a new window manager. In the same way, MS, in the biggest advance in Windows in years, is redesigning their windowing system.

I could go on, but I'm sure Contra would just end up going on a Linux rant in opposition to me ;)

*Yes, I know Longhorn isn't "entirely new" per se, but it's got enough truly major changes to warrant being called "entirely new"

It's always good to remember remember all that stuff.

I wouldn't say that Microsoft didn't "realize" that they needed a change in their GDI. I'd say they didn't want that to happen. It was much cheaper to simply retouch the old one.

#113245

Way to go man you won!

But how'd you get the solitaire cards to look like iTunes!? <_<

I never said they didn't realise - I said that it wasn't a viable option at the time.

Users wouldn't have been happy with Windows 9x for another few years, so MS had to release an "interim" OS - Windows XP.

They've got an OS which fixes a lot of 9x's biggest flaws (like the fact that it was as unstable as a house of cards in an earthquake), and that most users will be happy to live with until they can release a fundamentally altered OS (Longhorn).
