[help] Rfrsh Rate Of Apple/god Cinematic Monitors

They may be sharp and amazingly clear with great reviews and insane feedbacks, however despite the visual facts, I heard it isnt built for "fast" rendering / high FPS (say max payne on my altar 3ghz).

If this is true, then can somebody verify the speed and if its worth spending my money for. I figured if it has rapid pixel fliping then nothing should stop me from getting at least one of those.

I'd appreciate any help on that matter cause I may return my 24" back to god, and potentially use it for duals.

THANK YOU.

Didn't notice this thread before :shy:

If you let me know which size, Goku, I can find the datasheets for the appropriate panels. Admittedly, it might not be from their use in Apple hardware, but it'll be the same panels...

If it's any help, my Sony SDM-X82, which uses the same line of panels as the Apples, is fine for gaming (but then, I'm not a hardcore gamer).

I do know this, though - they're not designed for the lowest responses, but they're not exactly slow, either.

K heres the thing.

I need space on my precious desk. Cost me enough to fix up a cool decent table and as many professional vfx stations, I'm going to have another higher shelf sitting on top of that so I can put my precious monitor. Problem is, if i put my 24" sony god on that it wont sit on it cause the base sits far away from the shelf. In this case, I gotta remove the shelf and put my lord on the table. Its awesome, but I lose work space ( I use a 15" wacom tablet and I hate mouse pads ).

advantage: using a kick ass high rez fast refresh rate 24" god.

disadvantage: losing my shelf hence less space on the table.

On the other hand, if i switched that monitor with dual 20"s apple gods, i'll be able to get my shelf and space back, having a perfect working area, retaining as good quality of visuality on the screens, if not more. The "downfall" in this one is that these monitors arent excellent for high FPS, but thats where I'm not sure and here i need somebody's help, except timan. Dum people have already shouted that these displays have this "shadowing" or "ghosting" during games with high fps, which is total bs cause ive seen ut2003 in action. However i do know it has slower pixel fliping rate cause it isnt CRT projection. I just want to know if nowadays they have improved that to the extend its neglegable or is it still much slower?

Advantage: perfect working space with GREAT quality monitors

disadvantage (if completely true): lack of max payneness.

With regards to the whole refresh issue, my post in a past thread on refresh rates pretty much explains everything you need to know about CRT versus TFT for refresh rates.

Which to buy, however, is a matter of personal preference - like I said, I play games and movies, but don't notice any ghosting on my (apparently slow) TFT. Others can play on the absolute fastest TFTs, and still notice what they would consider to be "extreme" ghosting.

Technically speaking, TFTs are still much slower, but from a user experience point of view, you're unlikely to notice in 99% of cases.

If you've seen UT2k3 playing, and thought it was ok, then it probably will be fine, for you.

Agree.

the term 'ghosting' is old.

it does NOT exist anymore and whoever claims it happens then they should get beaten up real good, that crap existed on the liquid shizzle long time ago.

on the new TFT divine apple displays I did notice a 'choppier' fps, but there was never any ghosting. I'll go check it out in macmall since they have several high end games and it'll be a good test.

thanks for the tips. :banging:

LCD monitors are NOO GOOD for games and "fast rendering". Oh yeah, they suck for movies too.

....

They just plain SUCK ok?

Plasma is what you need if you want flat panel graphics, stick with CRT in Mi Opinion.

I played Halo, UT2003 and some others and watched movies on the new apple flat panel monitors and none of them exhibited any problems and the 23 inch one is AWESOME, and it does higher resolution than a plasma TV.

#112091

I guess I have just had bad experiences with them then.

from what i hear the apple cinema desktops are what the pro at pixar use and i'd think need the fast response times

slightly off topic but goku I noticed you have 4 gigs of ram installed I thought that XP only recognizes up to 2 gigs of ram or are u using *nix

i have an LCD monitor and i couldn't be more happy with it. I play cs, watch movies and all that and i have never noticed anything wrong.

define "wrong".

thing is, can i get the same 130 fps in max payne in the highest rez and details like I get on my crt, or will it never 'refresh' that way on a flat pan? Dont get me wrong, I'm more than sure apple monitors were created by god and they have a divine quality and really kicking ass pixel rendering, but I wanna know if it'll reach a smooth animation. I guess i'll have to test it myself.

@idicula:

yeah, I do :who's your daddy:

i just meant no ghosting of pixilating during games or movies.

The biggest problem I have with my LCD is that its not only dark but it can't distinguish shades of grey (for example: on a dark map I can't see the CT's/T's/Nazi's/Allies very well, everything dark blends together)
