[idea] Modded Version Of Gnome

Hey all,

I just got this idea for some one to create a modded version of gnome.

Instead of downloading gnome skin after skin, I was thinking having a OSX Gnome 2.4 with the apple menu, Grand_Masta's skins, and the dock, and more all included by default.

Anyone up for it? (of course this wont be easy :P )

that would be awsome! ya i would love for someone to do that, i dont use linux but i would use it if it was close to looking like panther or just osx in general.

This is a high unreality because of many things. The biggest problem would be the dock, since it requires sooo many different files in order for it to work. And gnome 2.6 is coming out soon. Apple menu comes with grandmastas theme. Plus not all people love aqua that much. I for one like milk, and think that milk themes look better then aqua themes. Another person might like cappucino or aluminum alloy...etc

Not only that, but its pretty easy to install everything except for the dock, so why even bother making an entire pack. It took me about 15 min to totally aquafy my gnome.

I have an idea. Let's rewrite the windows kernel to work on PPC processors!

Anyone up for the challenge? Because I msyelf sure as hell can't do it, but I had this great idea so surely someone will spend years of their life to half ass this!

THANKS! :banging:

well, I was saying panther as a default skin. meaning it will still have the ability to change skins and ect.. I dont know squat about linux and a mod pack would be nice :). but oh well.

You don't know how to change themes do you?

#110934

yup, I done even use linux  I have all of the distros but not installed.

I thought it would be a good idea. It would be like installing linux already customized as osx.

...so you want to make a shell making package because you can't install theme? But you don't have linux installed, even if you have the distros? Whats the point? Its really easy to install themes, literally drop and install.

but isn't it a lot more exciting when someone does it for you :canadian:

not really, considering how it would take the person weeks upon end trying to recompile the linux kernel, and the gnome packages that are installed with the distro, when you can just grab the theme and drag and drop into the theme props, and it installs itself. I'd feel bad for the person who wasted all his time.

Like i said, isn't it a lot more exciting when someone does it for you. they slave over the project while you [anyone] sit back and sip some red bull.... :canadian:

ok. this thread is pointless.

long story short, that's no simple project, and no developer on this forum has the time/knowledge to basically rewrite gnome.

and no, you're not just lazy, you have no f-ing clue how to do what you're asking for. be honest :6

#111842

Ya, this is stupid. Its so easy to install themes, and why would anyone even do your request? You don't even use linux. This is a disgrace to the skinning community including the -_- lazy bums. ;) Even they wouldn't ask for something like this.

#111994

I wasn't saying rewrite gnome so i could have skins installed... I was saying almost adjusting gnome to where it is almost aqua-soft's distro. It would have it's own boot loader, and all of that jazz. Of cource anyone and just install skins into gnome :6 , but thats not the point. I was talking about having gnome modded from install. That doesn't mean that you cant install your own themes. It just means when you install gnome it would already gave the os x feel.

#112652

it'd take much more then just replacing images, you'd have to dip into some source code.

this is one of those threads where I wish I was a mod.. so I could do one of those cool..

[topic CLOSED]

pointless thread
