Two Sp1a Questions

Mm, okay firstly I searched to forums for this and it return no results (also the 'Disk Space Requirements' on MS' site is dead <_<) and secondly I've installed SP1a before but that was on my C: partition but it was pretty soon after a format. (/Me sighs and tries to find things to uninstall to bump space up.) (Oh and please don't suggest moving all my files off my Win partition to get some space, I have and I've still only got 410MB free. :cry:)

The two questions;

1. How much space is actually needed? I've looked around and alot of places say 450ish MB, yet I remember the last time I installed it, it quit because of "low disk space" until I had around 680MB free.

2. Does it need to space on the Windows partition or just any? I know this may seem daft but I'm pretty sure I didn't lose 400 odd MBs of space last time.. So I thought maybe it just needs that much for swapping/adding files around?

well erm.. seeing as how it updates system files.. i reckon you *HAVE* to install it .. where your system files are. Which is of course, and has to be, your win partition.

I'm not positive.. but I assume it doesn't use much at all. By much at all I mean maybe a few mb's more.

The catch is, make sure you tell the installer NOT to archive old files (for uninstall). Also, you may want to delete your C:\windows\system32\dllcache (or whatever it is).

Don't do that until after you install it though. After installation delete your old dllcache, and your SP1 dllcache is something along the lines of C:\i386\*...

Both those folders may be hidden, so make sure you go into Explorer pref's and set it to show hidden files and folders. Deleting those two directories after the install could save you ~40mb. Not much.. but a start.

I take that back, the root of my \i386\ folder alone is close to 370mb. Not including all the subfolders. So you could end up saving yourself almost 1gb of space.
