Safari 1.2 Is Out
Its not bad.... just needs some work.
well, one of the new additions is resume on the file transfers (thank god for that one!)
Here is a list of new features in Safari 1.2:
- Ability to "tab" to form elements (buttons, checkboxes, submit buttons)
- The option (on/off) to "tab" to hyperlinks
- Improved download manager with resume
- View dimensions of an image
- Custom cursor support
- Option to open links from applications "in a new tab in the current window"
- Improved performance
Basically, just another slew of things to bring it a bit more in line with more established browsers like IE, Mozilla, Camino, etc. I like the option to open links from outside apps such as MSN Messenger in new tabs- it's a very handy feature, and yet another way to keep several windows from cluttering my screen.
Safari still needs work, but it's getting there.

I just downloaded a nightly of camino, before that I was using the .7 release which is almost a year old. I highly recommend all camino users get one of the lastest nightly's. I'm having no problems and the NTLM authentication isn't in the .7 release, which I need on a regular basis at work. Also seems a bit speedier.
it is getting there indeed, how long has Safari been out compared to the rest of browsers? put it in balance

Safari uses the KHTML render engine doesn't it? The same one Konqueror uses? Or did they end up ditching that for some other engine? either way, i've never liked the way konqueror renders.
That and I just like the default UI/skin of Camino better then Safari. go figure *shrug*
Someone extract the resources from the new version and I'll do something pretty with them.
Safari still does use the KHTML rendering engine, which is crap IMHO. I find it to be slow most of the time, and have seen it render websites completely wrong. I thik Apple should use a different engine.
As for the resources, they are the same as previous versions- it's the same GUI, just a couple different options with tabs, as well as a few other changes under the hood.

I dont know, i think safari screams now, it is so much quicker to load pages than it used to be. few minor things here and there that bug me, but overall it is actually more usable than it used to be.
one big thing that bugs the crap out of me, is that the cpu climbs sky high when posting on these boards. right now my cpu for safari is up around 75% yeeehhhaaaawwww

I noticed that too- I don't know if it's A-S or Safari, but whenever I am typing a post, there is a serious lag in how fast the letters appear. It gets quite annoying.
And spngbb, you're right, I never noticed that.

Also a very nifty "Search in Google" option is available in the context menu when text is selected.
