Home Networking Difficulties

alo,

it seems like it should be really simple, one desktop/one laptop... connect them, internet and file sharing capabilities needed. unfortunately, when i'm in win explorer on either computer, i click on 'my network places'/entire network/etc. i drill down to Mshome and i click on that, gives me an error

"MSHOME IS NOT ACCESSIBLE. YOU MIGHT NOW HAVE PERMISSION TO USE THIS NETWORK RESOURCE. CONTACT THE ADMIN OF THIS SERVER TO FIND OUT IF YOU HAVE ACCESS PERMISSIONS.

THE LIST OF SERVERS FOR THIS WORKGROUP IS NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE"

i asked my cat who is the administrator and he said it was all good and gave me permissions... does someone here know what might be wrong or know of a different forum that can help me with this...

both computers are running xp home, btw and each computer is connected through a router. simple installation, cable modem line is coming into the WAN port, each computer is coming into #1 & 2 LAN ports. i know the router is working, both computers have internet access. i just want to be able to share files between the 2.

maybe i haven't turned something on, software wise?? i ran the network wizard on both pc's.

let me know if anyone needs more info, or can give me the name of somewhere that can help.

thanks much... :D

edit---i think i got it working finally... thanks much
