Webserver Running On Panther?

Hello fellow Macritters©!

I just recently got interest on getting a webserver to run off my computer so my gf can download all of my photos (5000+ photos are kind of big to send over MSN dont you think?)

I then realized that apache was built in panther and started local sharing of my files, in the network it works only on teh first level, i can see the folder structure, computers can see whatever i paste in the webserver folder in the library, however, it doesnt work if i try to access any of those folders or if i try to access my IP from a differnt computer trough the internet i get a timeout.

Any clues?

Can you ping your IP remotely?

Are you behind a firewall?

Ok, you should know this too, my Mac is connected to the internet trough my pc which for the tiem being is my server, i am not even running the windows firewall at the moment as i thought it might have been a cause of worries.

i will try to ping my ip from a different comp as soon as i have access to one...

Make sure, if you're using windows connection sharing, you go into it's config, and forward port 80 to the MAC. Also make sure your MAC is setup statically, as everytime it sends a DHCP request your dumb windows machine will give it a different IP, thus breaking your port forwarding.

i don't believe ICS can do port forwarding.... stevie will inform us if it can i'msure :-)

you need to buy that router you were thinking of, or download some software for the windows pc. winroute rings a bell.

Yeah, the thing is that the router will only come when i am able to sell my pc, otehrwise there is no money

ICS can most definately do port forwarding, as I use it at home.

I have ICS on my machine that connect to the DSL, the machine that connects to it, has a connection sharing with a different subnet for my laptop to access it. I can set up port forwarding on computer A-> to go to computer B-> and set up PF on that to forward even further to Computer C.

Basically I got all that done, just so when i get on IRC from my laptop, IDENTD requests will still be received.

Long story short, yes ICS 100% has port forwarding.

Edit: ps, I don't believe you can specify a "range" of ports to do. You have to add them in one at a time, which makes FTPD forwarding a little more tricky.

Seph, getting the router is still better, you only need 1 computer on to do the job of a webserver instead of 2. plus windows crashes ;-)

you could afford a dual G5 system... the router is peanuts comparitively.

@Fissy, the router is not peanuts ocmparatively, the router is one month installment exactly to pay off my G5 , i can wait for the webserver as well, as i see it, getting the router now is an unnecessary buy as i can still connect to the internet trough my stinky monster (Winboxs's loving nickname )

I know it was somehting to do with the ICS from windows, but i could also be that my isp is using NAT (not sure, havent called yet) and thus that ip im trying to connect to is dynamic and prolly not accurate..

using a dynamic ip is fine... i run webserver/ftp/ssh/irc/jabber using that. Have a look at http://dyndns.org
