Noticed something strange with icons in ico format where we have more that only one image size.

Take a look at the pic, please: i have shiira icon (512, 256, 128, 32, 16 px) in the dock with 42px setted up icon size. This icon looks like rezised not from bigger image (128px) but from smaller (32 px). But from 49px + it looks ok as resized from bigger image like those 2 pngs on sides.

Just installed it on my widows 7 x64 machine.

first thing, my pc tools firewall went nuts. pops up every second the warning that nexus binaries have changed. dunno why it keeps saying that even if i confirm im fine with it (as if nexus binaries keep constantly changing?)

will test on the other machine as well

I would say that is a bug with the PC Tools firewall. :D

Sir JcRabbit, is here a way to have icons with reflection closer to dock edge? I'm trying to port a mac dock skin for Nexus and on preview it looks pretty nice with reflection close to the most edge of the dock (which also makes dock to look smaller and nicer) when i have icons moved upper in Nexus dock.

As i have now

but im so sad that me clicking on the icon still spawns multiple instances...

shift-clicking does... nothing?

Nothing.

I felt tempted to add that feature to this release, but, if you think carefully, that change makes much more sense if I also modify the task management abilities of the dock to be more like those of the Windows 7 taskbar. Doing that would take too long, so this feature will have to wait for a future release...

i am so looking forward to that release. and consider this is not necessarily to match windows 7 superbar, but also the macos dock itself.

Zexe, you still didn't comment on the performance enhancements...

Did you try disabling system tray icon groupping already to see if you can indeed notice the increased performance in comparison to v10.3 (it should be really noticeable on very large docks)?

You're not using the magnify effect, are you? If you were, it would use the icon size specified for max magnification (128x128 pixels by default). You're also missing the 48x48 icon format in your shiira icon, otherwise that would be the image used instead of the 32x32 version - you can blame Windows for this, as it will do the same thing.

indeed, the performance issue with ungrouped systray items is no more! and also tested more effects (zoom is my fav, it's more subtle). and the dock itself reacts more swiftly, very fine job there.

and i think i know whats up with the firewall going coo-coo on me. i realise the weather module does no longer update. maybe it was the attempts to retrieve the weather.

Thanks for letting me know! :)

I was under the impression that you were telling the firewall to let Nexus through and that the command wasn't sticking. Anyway, yes, the Weather module needs an Internet connection to retrieve weather information.

firewall did not react to nexus online access necesarely, it kept the popup with "binaries changed for nexus". its the component that warns if the applications already in the trusted list were tampered with, or upgraded for that matter. strangely he kept seeing changes every minute. also strangely, it stopped, but i got a broken weather module. the popup reads the forcast but the icon itself fails to capture temperature.

If you are getting the forecast, that could be a temporary glitch with the NOOA/METAR servers, which usually provide the current weather conditions (forecast itself is always provided by Weather.com, and, when there is no METAR code for that specific location, may also provide current conditions).

What does it say on the forecast tooltip?

correct location, but nothing for condition or temperature.

and below displays 5 icons with forecast, with temperatures.

it was a firewall issue after all, and i discovered it when a download was blocked.

the file downloaded was using the same name but instead the zip was a text file saying "dear l-user since nexus is blocked from access your file will not be downloaded"... damn i had so good opinion on pc tools firewall... nexus launched firefox that downloaded an app that was run that launched a p2p driver download from asus... not even remotely linked "directly" to nexus

i manualy reset all rules for nexus and now it works, correct icon, updates and everything.

another small issue: systray icon context menus

rightclicking on a systray item usualy brings the menu correctly but that is almost immediately placed "under" the dock.

if stil open (mouse was kept within the menu's boundaries) you can still navigate and select menu items even if its visually placed under the dock items:

nexussystray.jpg

think you can get the menu to stay on top?

The right-click context menu of systray applets is not 'mine' to handle - it's generated by the applications themselves. Actually, I seem to remember this being a problem with the Windows taskbar itself too?

Anyway, this said, I see one of two *probable* solutions although I haven't tried them:

1. Try setting the Windows taskbar to Always On Top.

2. Do NOT set the dock to Always On Top.

i was thinking the same about it being OS issue and not dock "feature". i suppose you can't control the position where it spawns either?

for windows 7 i couldnt find how to affect "z order" for taskbar :), i assume it's always on

i have set the nexus dock to be "same with other windows" and it works but now i get to hide the dock behind non maximised windows, yuck :)
