It seems like only a few of the rumors surrounding Apple's next product release were true, but mostly accurate as well.

Probably the most anticipated moment of Apple's event today was the revealing of an all-new iPod nano - now taller, thinner, and available in 9 colors, as well as in 8/16GB. The new nano is encased in a more rounded all-aluminum and glass shell and implements an "enhanced UI". The device now incorporates an accelerometer, not unlike that in the iPhone and iPod Touch, that allows you to turn the device on its side to watch videos in widescreen format. Shaking the device puts the music in Shuffle mode. The nano starts at just $149 for the 8GB version.

The iPod Touch also received a makeover, with a seemingly smoother, tapered and thinner shell backed with chrome that can be seen as a rim from the front, like on the iPhone. It also has volume controls along the left side, and a built-in speaker. New software adds Nike+ features to the device. The new Touch is available in 8, 16, and 32 GB at 229, 299, and 399 dollars, respectively.

The iPod classic wasn't left out today, as it is now available only in 120GB, for $249.

The popular iTunes application is now at version 8. The updated program now implements Apple's new Genius technology, enables HD TV show downloads, and a new grid view that lets you scan your library's cover art in a more spaced-out view than Cover Flow.

iPhone Firmware 2.1 was also announced, and Steve Jobs states it should improve the battery life of your iPhone, as well as reduce crashes and eliminate bugs.

lol. Im happy that I didnt have to write up what was already "Old" news... everyone knew what was coming! Apple sure has some leaks these days.

Well done A2Z.

Im not happy though they didnt release itunes unlimited, turn by turn iphone nav, new macbooks or an imac refresh but hey... theres still more time for those :P

I dont think itunes unlimited will ever be a reality though if they didnt announce it today

I love the new iTunes, but it took me like an hour to install it :S . The new iPod Touch is awesome But, I was expecting a little it more form Apple. A least an iMac or MacBook redesign. But the new iPod Nano, Apple gone back to the basics. I kinda like it Very nice.

I like iTunes 8, but I'm disappointed that we didn't get new Macs. I've been waiting for an aluminum MacBook forever. At least iPhone firmware 2.1 comes out on Friday. That should be interesting.

And now for the requisite question: does anyone have the wallpaper shown in that iPod Touch media image? :)

Can somebody tell me does new iTunes on windows looks same on mac (Traffic lights on the left)?

No, and it never will.

I'm sorry if I missed the answer but what kind of information does iTunes 8 want to send to apple if I turn on Genious feature ? IS there smth else behind info about my playlist songs ?

It looks like genius feature is just the late on innovation which follows already made in Last.fm or pandora ?

The iPod Touch in my post displays a screenshot of Tap Tap Revenge.

Damn. I was hoping it was just a still image I could slap on there. Thanks.

Your privacy isn't going to get violated, if that's what you're worried about. Genius just compares information like artist, genre, play count, etc. There's no personal data going out, just listening habits.

Okay. Although its a pity that genius feature is available only for those who has an account on apple store. And its a pity thousaund more than people can register at that store only if they have credit card. What we can do if we don't have credit card ? Believe it or not but in the 21 century there are a lot of people who still do not use credit cards. Are their rights violated in this matter. What you think ?

No problem, Desides.

alabanco, that's probably due to the fact that in the end, Apple is purely interested in you buying the music Genius suggests. I've always laughed at the ease-of-use associated with the iTMS. Easier to spend your money, from their perspective. They know once they have your credit card, you're more likely to buy music. So they make it a prerequisite for new features like Genius.

There's always debit cards. ;)

But using the Apple Store isn't a right, so it's very difficult for me to say requiring a credit or debit card for online transactions is a violation of someone's rights.

Bingo!

@alabanco:

As for mandatory requirement of credit card info for registering on iTMS, it is so for verifying authenticity of user. Although I would agree that Genius playlist feature shouldn't have been iTMS dependant.

Like iPod Nano, where you can generate genius playlists wihtout iTMS; we should have been able to generate Genius playlists from our own library only.

Luring people to purchase more from iTMS was nice marketing move Apple, but this feature should have been more open and not tied to iTMS by default.
