Something wrong with me?

Recommended Posts

OK Well, i don't feel like going to the doctor blah blah so I thought that maybe some medical expert here at AS can help me.

For the past couple of months, I feel like my memory isn't as good as it was. I forget small things. Like for example, let's say i want to search for something on google, i'm thinking about it and then proceed to type it in but then I forget what i was thinking about. Sometimes i forget words too. It's really annoying and rather bothersome.

Another symptom i have since school ended (June ~14th) was trouble sleeping. My mom always told me that i shouldn't be on the computer an hour before i go to sleep, but I never listened to her because I never felt the computer affected my sleeping. Now, i'm usually up to around 4:30AM or something almost every night. I feel like i can't get my mind to shut up. My body is tired, but not my mind. I don't know what the issue is.

I googled my memory symptoms (which i forgot) and apparently i might have ADD. Trouble sleeping is another symptom that was mentioned.

No, i'm not crazy..... yet. Can anyone help me :) ?

That's just normal, because when school ended, you stopped to use your brain as much as you did during school. So your mind can't get tired. Try to solve one or two "mind puzzles" (Sudoku, cross word puzzles, ...) each day, maybe this will help you mind to get tired.

How is you mood during the day?

Feh, I ain't gonna hide it. I'm diagnosed with ADHD myself, (and... very mild autism... VERY mild, stfu) and your memory problems you're having is very common for people like myself, especially kids like myself. Hell, when I was a bit younger, I had all of what you're going through and more... I've grown out of it some, but the memory problems and hyperactivity is probably never gonna go away -- but of course, medication does help (I'm a hippie xP, so I don't take them).

You are showing a little signs of ADD or ADHD, but not really enough of them for a doctor to diagnose you... Or, from at least what you've told us. Any frequent mood swings, you get "bored" very easily, even at things you love doing? Do you have trouble paying attention, lose interest in things awfully quick, or find yourself daydreaming when you're doing high-activity things like playing a hard game...?

Thank you for your responses. Shrmom, i thought that too (about the whole mind-school relationship) so i started doing sudokus and random brain games i found on the interwebz. I didn't help that much.

Topkey, i have been drinking green tea for a while now. It seemed to help. Before i started using it, i'd be pulling 3 day long all nighters.

Phantom_Lord the retard hahaha! Just kidding...my moods during the day have been fine, not much mood swings going on. I am bored...maybe 40% of the time, usually when i'm on the computer. Most of the time i'm outside or with my friends. I have the attention span and concentration of any 15 year old. I was always a daydreamer, but most of the time that's during school.

Lay off the internet, even a comp for that matter.

Grab a camera, go to trip, snap as many as chick photos you can and try to remember where you snapped what. :P

In short... get a life. Real one. :)

well if you live in a city with an extensive mass transit system, NYC for example, you can plan a week where you go to a different spot every day find a park and chill there. its age appropriate and doesn't take too much money.

yesterday i took a day off from work (a job where i spend 100% of my time on the computer) and i felt like I was going to jump out of my skin. i'm sure after a couple of days i would have gotten used to it, but i can't afford to do that right now.

perhaps you need to outline more stringent rules for yourself. set an alarm so you can wake up at the same time every morning. try to eat the same or similar things for breakfast. try to develop some sequence for your daily activities. force yourself to go to sleep at the same time and same conditions every night. get some exercise. and most importantly consume absolutely NO CAFFEINE!!

I'm 21 and don't have any mental issues (at least none that i know about) but having a schedule for myself really helps maintain some order in my life.

if nothing works, definitely see your doctor. there's no shame in that!

best of luck,

Sounds like stress / lack of activity. I'm pretty much the same way.

I'm not sure if you are this way, but the main things I forget involve computers/internet/tv and other mind draining electronics.

I wouldn't recommend walking around the city with nothing to do, unless you're bound to run into someone. IMO, there's nothing worse than being in your own mind for hours upon hours.

Cut off the caffeine, also!

I'm having the exact same problem as you, and like you I don't drink caffeine and I own a membership at a gym that I've been going to daily so a lack of exercise can't be the problem. I live in the country so there's alot of woods and quiet places (like a huge pond a mile behind my house) that I can go to calm myself and relax, which usually helps me. Also, I'm 16 and have mild ADHD...so since Phantom has that too and has similar problems maybe there's a connection? :P

I personally love how whenever the words "staying up late on a computer" are mentioned people immediately assume that the person does not have a social life. That's entirely stereotypical bullshit. I mean, really, who the hell are you going to call up or do something with at four in the morning?

I also have this problem. Mainly, I wake up at 4am and my mind is wide awake. Literally. I have to take an ambien cr just to get relaxed again. If it wasn't for that, I would literally be up coding at that time because my mind is going faster than it should. ADHD at it's finest!

Bingo!

@J2F: pssht, screw the ambien, if it weren't for Tylenol Extra Strength I wouldn't be able to get my weekly day of sleep xP! 4AM is where I code up crap the best, I've noticed. Amirite? Especially with web pages and perl.

@SS: You noticed it too?
