Stacks Docklet

Recommended Posts

Actually that docklet was made by Matonga, i checked. But it was an older version so I replaced it with the one available on the first post of this thread. I still have the same issues.

The "open Folder" link isn't working.

The "icon" field in the settings doesn't work.

When I place a custom icon onto a URL shortcut, The default IE URL icon shows in StacksDocklet, not the custom one. Not sure why.

do a double checking.. standalone docklet is not Matonga's but uses matonga's stackdocklet.

I see how to create a docklet that displays icons in a desktop folder, but how do I add individual executables to a flyout docklet, so that I can remove them from my desktop??

Create a separate folder somewhere (for e.g. in My documents).

Then drag those executables from your desktop to the folder.

Then add a stack pointing to that folder.

Each time a new program appears in your desktop, just shift+click the docklet. The folder will appear, and you can drag the program from the desktop to the docklet folder, and then just click the docklet and see the new program appears.

Stacks Docklet is strictly related to "physical" folders. If you need a virtual folder such as in Mac OS X Leopard stacks, take a look at Mac X Dock by BOBAH13 (published in this same forum, it is a work-in-progress)

Awesome Docklet!

I just want to report an issue I've encountered while running the Stacks Docklet with ObjectDock (v1.91k). I created a Stack Docklet for a "Games" folder I have and set it to: "fan" & "Don't show Open Folder." I have about a dozen games under this folder. Occasionally when I go click on the game which is at the top of the list the "Games" folder will open as if I've browsing a directory instead of the game launching. The weird thing is that the "Don't show Open Folder" is checked and I do not see the "Open Folder" icon in the list. This happens maybe once out of ever 10 times.

Thank you.

clear box "Dont Show Open Folder" so you'll see the "Open Folder" in the stack. it is not weird when you check it then you don't see it.

Are you saying that the "Don't Show Open Folder" check box is merely a visually option and that it doesn't actually disable the "Open Folder" entry from being clicked? I assuming this isn't the case.

I've checked the box so I do NOT see "Open Folder." My hope is that this also disables "Open Folder" whether I can see it or not. However, as I stated above when I click on a game which is at the top of the "fan" (e.g., currently the game is Warhammer Online) it will sometimes open the folder instead of launching the game. It is as if there is a phantom "Open Folder" entry present.

Thanks.

Has anyone else experienced the bug that freezes up ObjectDock?

Here are the steps to repeat it:

#1. Click on a stack icon to open the stack

#2. Do NOT select an item from that stack

#3. While the first stack is still open click on a second icon for a different stack

This freezes my ObjectDock every time.

So I have to be extra careful to let the first stack close before I click a second and that bugs me. (No pun intended)

Can anyone else repeat this bug?

If so is there a solution?

Your assumption is wrong (yes, I know... kill me).

This is really easy to fix, I'll fix it as soon as I can.

(BTW did you test the grid mode? It has the same "bug" :) )

Edit:

@dangdang:

Do you have this problem when 'Follow the dock' is enabled or disabled?

Thanks for the clarification matonga! I look forward to the fix.

I actually did switch things over to Grid just to make sure I wasn't going crazy. I haven't had the problem since but I will keep my eyes open for it. ;) Keep up the great work. I love the Docklet.

I have a problem with the stackdocklet. my pc`s resolution is 1280X800.

when I use fan mode. some icons are cut.

Another issue is. in grid mode, if there are too many items, it just produces a a huge grid which will be several times bigger than my screen.

Could you please let it automaticly produce a reasonable grid not occupy whole screen and you can just put few words at the bottom of the gird just like in fan mode: "XXX items more"

@matonga: i posted this a few days before in this thread! ;)

this seems to be the same problem as mine: i think it has to do width the screen margin?

@matonga

Thank you for your help. I was having the problem when I had "Follow the Dock" turned off. Now that I have it turned on the problem doesn't happen.

Thanks again for the amazing docklet. I would think ObjectDock would want to put something like this into their default features. I have been using it for months now and just love it. I went to switch to a Mac last month and just couldn't do it. I already have the beautiful interface thanks to you and ObjectDock!

@matonga

Now after using the "Follow the Dock" mode for a day or two I realized why I had it turned off. Quite often I find the Grid Pop-up retracting before I can click on anything and this only happens in "Follow the Dock" mode. Is there any way to stop the dock from freezing up when I don't have "Follow the Dock" mode on?

Thanks for your help!

Hi, I'm not sure whether this has been answered or not, but I am attempting to use the Windows Vista folder icons (in imageres.dll) as the icons for several stack docklets on ObjectDock. Can someone explain how to use these as the icons? I tried it under RocketDock, but changed to ObjectDock because of the tabbed dock functionality. I greatly appreciate the help. Thanks.

Try this:

  • Download, install and run XN Resource Editor (http://www.wilsonc.demon.co.uk/d10resourceeditor.htm)
  • Goto File > Open and open imageres.dll
  • A lot of stuff appears in a tree view, expand Icon Group.
  • A lot of numbers appear. Each number is an icon. Expand a number and you'll get English or something like that (it would say Español (alfabetización internacional) in my case because I have a spanish Windows) click it and you'll see an icon.
  • Do that on all numbers until you find the icon you want. Then right click it (in the tree view) and choose Export resource and save it as whatever-name-you-want.ico (don't forget the .ico extension).

However I'm pretty sure there is some program allowing you to extract all icons from a .dll to a folder, so you can just browse that folder or better yet move it to the Icons folder in RocketDock/ObjectDock/whatever-dock.

Thanks Matonga, I'm excited to get this working, but it seems to crash everytime I go to configure it. What happens is I add the docklet to ObjectDock. I then go into the settings and select an icon. As soon as I exit and click on the stack docklet, it crashes. I've attaced a few screen shots. Any advice?

Thanks,

Leeloff

Mmm... not sure what's going on.

Did you setup all parameters, or just the icon?

matonga, you are amazing! Incredible work on this! Thank you so much for sharing your time and skills with all of us downloaders and tweakers.

When you click for example, your "downloads stackdocklet" folder, and your items fan out or grid out, when you hover over them, is there some type of hover or rollover effect? When I hover over items in the TaskDocklet (a seperate docklet, I know), there is a beautiful hover effect, and I'm wondering if there could be this same type of hover effect on Stack Docklets?

I can't remember if when I first installed the iVista RK Launcher if there was such an effect on the stackDocklets or if I'm just going insane and there never was any effect? I suppose the purpose of my post is... is there supposed to be a rollover effect, and if not, is there a way to enable one, or would this require additional programming?

Thanks again, your programming has made my day!

P.S. I've included a screenshot of an example from the TaskDocklet... a lighter color highlight.

1. control panel from special folder just get rocketdock shut down automaticly.

2. several stacks on Objectdock. the label of the first stack you click would not disappear. that stop dock doing autohide and other stange behaviour

you can reproduce second problem in this way.

1. run a objectdock

2. setup two stacks

3. open one stack by clicking it ONCE.

4. click another stack without click off the first one.

of course the first stack will be automaticly close while clicking the second one. however it leaves something, the label.

Matonga, several people - including myself, of course - have been asking for some time if it were possible to add some onHover effect to the grid... can you tell us something? is it a feature you're going to add when you have time or not?

I would agree to this. I don't mean to push, I'm pretty sure you have other things to do. But it would be neat to have this added.

If you read the first post you'll find your answer...

Sorry, Panta, but I simply cannot read anything related to my question in the first post of this thread... could you please quote what you mean? Anyway I read all posts a few months ago, and found here and there a similar request, to which I added mine. Now, not having had any reply by Matonga, I simply asked whether such functionality was "in the pipe" or not.
