MacOS9fan
I was looking at Macworld 1999 from google video, and you know, sometimes I wished I had a PowerMac G3 (blue and white) its so cool! So, who loves the semi-clear colored plastics? In my opinion, I think they are fantastic. Link to comment
KAWSquared
yea, i think they're pretty chill when they're not so thick. I like the old iMac, when it had a very thin sheet over it, that was awesome, and the 5G iPods, before all this god damn "iPod Classic" BS, it also has (had) a thin sheet of clear plastic. You have a pretty good point I've seen 70+ degrees Celcius on my computer's processor thermometer. Not regularily, mind you. But if I have Safari with a Flash document, Aperture and Photoshop open, it has to work pretty hard. Link to comment
iGo
I think G5's had major heat problem, compared to current Intel. Remember Liquid Cooling system in G5 Powermac?Clear Plastic had it's time, now it's time of Aluminium and Glass. As Apple will evolve it's design, someone will come up with such threads.. "Hey, who loved the aluminum?". We have even seen lot of change in PC, from Beige Boxes to current flashy cabinets with black, silver and side windows and stuff. But no one says "Who loved the Beige boxes?".I personally loved Copland Gray UI of OS8, 9... and I still like it. But face it, we shifted to Aqua and we loved it. But when I look back to first Aqua UI of OS10, now it looks ugly and unpolished to current Tiger. We will all eventually shift to Aluminium/Unified look and like it... and so will happen to exterior as well. We loved White Glossy Plastic on iPods and iBooks... and we will eventually come to admire Aluminum exterior too. Even in days of White Gloss and Clear Plastics, there were skeptics and there were supporters. It's good to remember Past, but face it... we have to live in present. Link to comment

MacOS9fan
I actually like both the beige and the color mac models. I like the Apple computers when they were thinking Differently, including all the models when Steve Jobs came back, though I dont like the white models or the aluminum models, I think when apple switched to the models that were white and aluminum, are for the common user and not the people who think differently.... you cant really say that a beige mac looks like a PC, what it really matters is when you turn it on, then you see what I mean, but I honestly like all Macs, but the colors are the best, they are very creative. I love the plastics, so yeah, I am not " indecisive" or "I dont know what I like" I love the translucent color plastics, and I love those macs more than the others...I want you guys to see Macworld 1999 on Google video if you have a chance, and if you dont want to see the whole thing, just skip to the part that says "the look of love" its a video within Macworld, and you will see what I am talking about. The PowerMac G3 is on my Christmas wish list now! Link to comment
iGo
When the whole world was putting out Black matte notebooks and media players, Apple came out with White Glossy iBook and iPod, not to mention Brushed Aluminum Powerbooks.... how is that not Thinking Different? Now we see loads of hi-gloss laptops, media players.. in lighter shades and different colors... now apple is turning tide from Gloss to Aluminium. Thinking differently, means that your are NOT common, but now in the year 2007, we see teens with iPods and iPhones, those people are young, and most of them know apple as "the music company" and not even know their computers and may not think differently, but back in `99, there was no iPhones or ePods, theres was Apple computers, and thats what apple Computer really is, I was disappointed on how they dropped "computer" from the Apple computer name, Apple is not a music company, its a Computer company, Steve is not thinking differently now, he is thinking like a common person now with the music industry and etc... I dont see much exitement like back in the 90`s from Apple... My point is that Apple is now known by alot of people by the iPods, and NOT their computers, and it should not be that way... My point is that Apple is now known by alot of people by the iPods, and NOT their computers, and it should not be that way...The whole thing with iPods and Apple's name is a different story than what color the cases of their computers are, but I'll reply to that too I guess. Yes I agree that it's a shame many people only know Apple for iPods, but then again, with all the business Apple has gotten from the iPod, they have been able to make their computers even better for us true Mac users. Not to mention iPods are just plain cool. About colors: Basically there are 2 factors to consider here:- What colors/materials appeal to you- What colors/materials were introduced to the market by Apple (Thinking Differently) and later copied by various other companiesPersonally I like the colored plastics, as well as the glossy whites and aluminums. However I don't understand your argument that aluminum and white are not original, while beige is. Ever since Apple released the iMac in 1998, they have been the ones to introduce new styles to get away from the beige box. Not there's anything wrong with the beige boxes per se, but they are just not "thinking different" anymore than the newer colors are. So really, Apple's glossy/white/colored plastic, and aluminum & glass, are their symbols of "thinking differently", not beige. What color you like best, however, is merely opinion, but don't base your opinion on facts that aren't true. Link to comment
Levi- The perfectionist
I dont like the 'ribbed/pinstripe' semi transparent style plastics- I think they look cheep and tacky...But I do like the fact that these 'plastic' models introduced colour to PCs.I guess I dont mind the plastics used on the iMac G5 and the 5th gen iPod because they are smooth and glossy and almost glass looking. But I think I'd prefer Apple just stick to aluminiums and glass. they look far nicer. I think its a shame tho that Apple is neglecting colour. Link to comment
rohImon
well macos9fan, you just gotta accept it that apple wants to make profit too.. it seems to me that you want apple to be like that company before 98-97 ,market share falling stocks dropping, but a dedicated community of apple users happy(why, cause apple is different),if apple would have continued that approach, you would have been soon using mango computers, apple is growing ,grow with it or perish dude... ps:and this is summarative answer to all your threads and posts about sadness of apple growing Link to comment
iGo
They changed the bloody hardware to what?? X86.. and they are no more different?I think someone's taking meaning of "Think Different" too literally here. Apple is still different. Have you seen better looking systems using Aluminum & Glass than iMac, not to mention the form factor?Their OS is different, look n feel is different, their mentality about doing things is different... how come Apple is no more Thinking Different?. So please, Apple products are Different no matter what hardware they use under the hood. Link to comment
rohImon
i didnt meant to say that apple is not anymore being different, that being different clause i used was a sarcasm...and different approach meant that using industry standards and not only going ahead using g5 ,when intel is providing dual and quad even ... You contradict yourself by saying that white and aluminum are for common user not the people who think differently, but then go on to say that actually what really matters is when you turn it on and that you can't say that a beige mac can look like a pc? Well if your so hyped up about the past then you will know that actually at one point all major computer makers and developers used beige cases, for their PCs.As someone has said you are taking the "Think Differently" slogan too seriously. ITS A SLOGAN for gods sake, its like the Slogan for Vista was WOW - it certainly didn't live up to that slogan.Jj Link to comment

They relaunched Apple back into innovation, and as I said, for its time thier was just nothing that "different" out there... and yay for colours. But they've had thier time (IMHO), and yeah I think Its good that Apple is constantly changing thier use of materials. While colour is gone, theres still no denying that Apple keeps looking flashier and is still "thinking different"... just have a look at the new iMac in person- its breathtaking. Link to comment
