SKYLINE R34
I was reading a thread in Apple Discussion, thay was talking about Apple might be using Blue-Ray drives in their computers is this true? If it is true when are thay coming with it? I'm willing to wait even more to buy my MacPro in light of this news. This isn't a release. - gnomexp Link to comment

dreamsINdigital
blue-ray will be another dead format from sony i highly doubt apple would even considerusing itThen why did Apple join the Blu-ray Disc Association in March of 2005? Sounds to me like they plan to use it...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005 Link to comment
Levi- The perfectionist
Mmm... As much as I think Blue-ray is the future, I'm also not really that excited.Ok so they're large capacity disks, but besides that they arent really that exciting... the need isnt really that great for a large capacity disk at the moment. We have the option between dual-layer DVD's or an external Hard Drive to cart data- and this suits most people's needs at the moment.Where Blue Ray will succeed is where a 10 disk DVD set (eg- The Matrix Collectors edition) can be put onto one or two disks. Its more convenience than need, I think DVDs will stay around for as long as Blue Ray. People dont want to fork out the extra $$$ again like they did DVDs.I'm more excited about the arrival of flash hard drives/ memory in computers which will eliminate the need to shut down computers, allow faster access speeds to data and general improved performance and reliability of computers.Look into it on google, its quite a cool thing... stinkey diver
Gee i wonder how long it will take to burn a full blue ray disc full of data? Id rather have an external hard drive of flash stick. Link to comment
ShadyApple
well apple is supporting bluray as is most movie companies, but really i dont care about any of these new formats. their not quantium leaps like dvd was with vhs. Link to comment
evilmnky204
Blagh, honestly Blu-Ray technology doesn't impress me the least bit. Yes, it's got a shitload of storage. So what? Right now, there is absolutely NO need for that. We've got external harddrives, dual-layer DVDs and such. Plus, I doubt anyone in their right mind would actually fork over the insanely huge amount of money for the actual players. Link to comment
ShadyApple
sony didnt even get their bluray players out yet, i think samsung were the first to come with the first bluray player. and i agree there really isnt any need for it right now, just because we have the technology dosnt mean its ready to be introduced, espically when dvd is doing so well right now. and yes im aware that bluray and hddvd both can play dvds but regardless all those two companies are doing right now is confusing the mundane consumer on which medium to choose. if they introduced a unified medium then i might consider buying one, but as of now id rather wait it out to see whos the clear cut winner or if their is a chance a unified medium will be introduced in the near future, even though its a longshot. nightcrawler1089
Isn't it ~20 GB vs. 8 GB (for dual-layer)? You'd be surprised what people are willing to pay for--I think there's a market for this, though I don't know if it lies with the Mac portable line.-NC Link to comment

I don't know how they'd work on a computer, given that there is already external harddrives. Link to comment

Slewed
not hd-dvd, i feel microsoft are making a mistake there.however with both of these formats, remember 1 scratch will delete more data then on a dvd or a cd, and you can lose more data with just a little bit of damage then before. (i dont know if anyone else has this problem, i have stupid relatives who tend to scratch disks i lend them)also, they cost way too much right now. Link to comment
