Mac OSX Tiger Skin v1.0 for RAZR V3!

Recommended Posts

I have flashed everything and installed all of the icons, skins, etc. Mine still does not look like yours. My main screen still has the bar at the bottom. I am also missing some of the icons on the menu page. They are still the old Motorloa ones.

Are you sure you flashed your phone correctly. The .shx file should replace all your indicator icons (battery, signal message, ect.) and give you a new startup and shut down screen as well as new recieving and sending animations. Are they "motorola" icons or carrier icons ie. Cingular, T-Mobile? Do you have 9 or 12 icons?

I first flashed my phone with a monster pack then flashed my DRM.

All of your DRM icons show up. I just get the menu bar at the bottom of my main screen and some of the other menus are not OSX, but they are the default theme. It might be carrier related.

Here is what I did.

1. Copied all files to the proper directories.

2. Made custom wallpaper and copied that to proper directory.

3. Cycled power on phone to verify that new audio kicks in.

4. Flashed DRM to your custom DRM.

5. Cycled power again.

6. Applied skin and wallpaper.

I am going to try applying a monster pack. It is probably just a firmware/flex issue.

Thanks so much for an awesome skin!

Sounds like not all the .data file that accompany the skin were properly added to the MacOSXTiger folder in you skin directory. I'd try recopying the files again. Then restart your phone. This happend to me once. Make sure ALL these files are in your MacOSXTiger skin folder: MacOSXTiger.ski, MacOSXTiger.dat, & MacOSXTiger1.dat through MacOSXTiger14.dat

Thanks for all of your help. I did not have the skin folder named properly. Doh!

Here is a quick guide for people that want to mod their RAZR. I realize everyone probably knows all of this, but the n00bs like me struggle :)

1. Download RSD Lite. http://www.drmoto.net/files/RSD_LITE_2_7.rar

2. Download P2K Commander. http://s5vi.vxxxstuff.com/commander/commander.html

3. Download the OSX Skin. http://www.birthstardiamond/OLD/MacOSX_Tiger_Moto_Skin.zip

3. Install both programs and extract the skin.

4. Fire up P2K Commander and install all of the files in the proper directories. Look at the readme. Be sure to name the skin folder MacOSXTiger!

5. Run RSD Lite and select/install the OSX DRM file.

6. Cycle power on your RAZR.

Good guide concretenomad but don't forget to make sure everyone downloads and installs the proper P2K drivers so that their phone is recognized by their PC. ;) Enjoy the Skin! I have updated the Read Me file within the skin pack; hopefully it is easier to understand.

PDidee - I have noticed that when my RAZR is closed the icons have not changed and the wallpaper does not stretch as it used to. Is there a way to change the icons and wallpaper preview when the phone is closed to match the rest of the skin?

Not sure what your asking. I think if you want your wallpaper to stretch on the outer screen when the phone is closed you need to go to Settings>Personalize>Wallpaper and make sure layout is set to "Fit-to-screen". For the Home Screen to customizze the icons on the dock go to Home screen>Home Keys> then set your preferences and make sure Icons are set to "Show".

If when you say "icons" your refering to the signal and battey icons on the outer screen; that is part of the DRM and I haven't created outer display icons yet for those.

I have certain questions regarding applying this to a V3. Will I be able to restore the original themes of the phone just in case or is there no turning back? How hard is it to modify from 9 to 12 icons?

Where do I find P2K drivers? Just got a V3 today and still have to tinker with it. :D

Is there any way I can kill the phone by uploading these theme? Wouldn't want that happening.

Thanks! Help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay. Lots of questions with many answers. Let's see if I can answer them all clearly:

1. First and for most applying any skin (Flexing) or changing of the phone's system software (Flashing) VOIDS YOUR PHONE'S WARRANTY! So be careful with it and I'm not responsible.

2.Everything is reversable provided you don't accidentally "Brick" your phone. This will usually accure from a bad flash.

3.BACKUP Everything first!!!! You can make an entire carbon copy of your phone with all your numbers and contacts and settings that you can flash back to your phone in case something goes a rye.

Now that those major things are out of the way let me tell you were to go. Go to www.themotoguide.com and follow the instructions on how to get your phone connected; all necessary drivers and software are located on this site. I suggest installing the drivers, getting your phone connected and recognized by P2K Commander then do a "Flash Back up" of your phone first.

Next go to P2K Commander and and follow the skin installation guide I provided an/or the guide on the site. This is called "Flexing" your phone. Think of it as sort of flexing the phone's space in order to add a folder with a skin in it. All your doing is adding an option not taking anything away. With the skin installed your phone will have the OSX theme and most of the icons when you select the theme on your phone. The exception is what is called the DRM. This is the system level icons & gifs (Battery monitor, signal strength, video camera icon, new mail, chat etc.) and is "Flashed" to your phone using RDS Lite.

It took me a while to get up the courage to flash my phone the first time. It can screw up your phone if your not careful. I'd wait on this and see how you like the theme first just by itself. I added a few extras to the pack that will change your outer display when it's open and your start up and shut down animations as well as a few icons, so you can change a little more without flashing. Remeber to back up everything first. Make a folder containing all the files on your phone as they are now before over riding them. You can do this with P2K commander and copy the files from your phone to the computer.

To change your menu from 9 to 12 you'll need to first back up your mma_ucp file located in your system folder. Then use P2KMenuEditor to open the file on your phone and customize the additional icons you'd like to see on you main menu. Remember to use the 12 icon skin instead of the 9 icon skin if you do this.

Once your into flashing your phone there is a lot of stuff you can do. I flashed my phone with a "Monster Pack" which adds new software to your phone and strips away all the branding (ie. T-Mobile or Cingular or whatever carrier) leaves your phone as was when Motorola created it. If you like AIM you'll have a heck of a time re-activating thisif you do this to your phone. I also "unlocked" my phone and got rid of files I don't use to save space which made my phone a lot faster.

For additional help go to the following forums: www.motox.info or www.motomodders.net

Hope this helps. :)

WOW.

I HAVE to have this.

PDidee.... please please please stretch this for the V3X.

I've done a little research and all it needs really (apparently) is enlarging the icons a little. Though if I did it myself I would undoubtedly **** the whole thing up and, moreover, they would look pixelated...

please???

I noticed that when I use the moto skin, I can record video, but when I switch to the MacOSXTiger skin I cannot record video. Actually, what happens is, I'm able to select my video camera, start recording, but when I hit stop, it hangs at "Please Wait..." forever never allowing me to store the video. I've switched back a forth between the skins to verify that it was the skin that was causing the problem. Doesn't seem to make much sense, but that's what's happening.

Here's my tech specs:

S/W Version: R374_G_Oe.41.C3R_B

Carrier: Cingular

DSP S/W Version: 6234400

Flex Version: GSMV3MYCIN01NAOF5

The only mods I've made to the phone are this skin, the custom wake and shut down sounds, cl.gif, and I removed the Scarlet and Silver themes and skins.

I'm using the 6-icon MacOSXTiger skin.

Any ideas?

Mine does the same thing.

Must be a bug in the DRM file.

Actually mine does video record but it does hang before finally saving the file. It's not the DRM because timkennett didn't install the DRM according to his description of his mod. The custom "shut down" and "Start up" are already embedded in the DRM so if he install the ones that came with the pack I'm guessing he didn't install the DRM.

I think the error occurs because the skin is .dat file heavy. I don't use the video cam all that much so it's not been an issue for me. I think I'm gonna try to restructure the skin again using a clean template and see if that changes the amount of .dat files it generates.

@bjohns

The DRM is for a V3 only.

Thanks for your responses PDidee and rjohnstone. I actually did forget to mention that I did put the DRM icons on my phone, but that is the only other change I made -- seriously this time ;) As PDidee said, I don't think that's the issue though since the DRM icons are still active when I am using the moto skin, which allows me to store video. So, it looks like it might be the .dat issue PDidee was mentioning. This isn't a huge deal to me either since I don't really use video that much. Just noticed it the other day when I was trying to show my wife how our phones could take videos :) Thanks again for your help.

Oh! And one other thing -- I did actually wait out the "Please Wait..." message for a long time and it eventually just went back to the "My Stuff" menu without storing the video. Seems like it times out or something.

Thanks again for making this neat skin, PDidee. It makes the other skins look even uglier than they already were ;)
