Indeed I did, thanks for pointing this out Cy. Rules are law and are not open to interpritation and cannot be changed modified at will. The rule is that rips/mods can be posted in screenshots so long as they are not distro'd.

I just assumed (via common courtesy) that if the original author requests it be removed that it could/would be done out of respect-- but the rule has nothing to do with respecting authors.

I propose that we respect our original creative talent.

Pretty much everything that needs to be said has been said... but here are my 2 cents:

I think it should be allowed for someone who does a port of a theme to post it in the screenshot thread, as long as the porter makes it very clear that he was not the original author. That way there would be no confusion as to whether the shot was a rip or not.

If, as Unbe said, an original author requests a screenshot of her theme to be removed, it should be respected.

Another thing... why all the Unbe hate? If you really want him gone that bad... demote Unbe, and see how long A-S lasts. It will degrade into what 99% of any web forums are, and that's not good.

I'm not explicitly trying to take sides here - just presenting what seems to me as the most logical and practical solution.

That was me. I made the current rules, with the help of Tim, Sid, Seph, Unbe, Pe8er, and various other staff.

I’m sure the guys will correct me if I’m wrong, but they look pretty much identical to the last version I worked on. The screenshot thread’s rules were created by Seph, with a little assistance form Tim and me because Seph was the resident screenshot *****/king.

Oddly enough, I’ve been toying with the idea of returning to Aqua-Soft…

Julieta was banned cause i repatedly warned not to post screenshots of Eternal when we were trying to get susumu's permission, for re-distributing a ripped theme and for repeatedly insulting me.

And would you please clarify the "bape" situation? I'm not sure i banned anyone for showing a screenshot of Bape icons. I think i banned someone for claiming to have made the icons when it was clear they were ripped.

My point exactly. But she wasn't banned for breaking a rule. And me, personally, wouldn't pay any attention to a moderator's warnings if they're not based on rules. We're not talking about moral fiber, we're talking about breaking or not breaking rules. Maybe it's not decent for her or anybody else to do what she did, but if she wasn't breaking a rule, then she didn't deserve to get banned, unless Aqua-Soft's ban policy is not founded on breaking the rules, or unless Aqua-Soft simply has no real definition of the reasons for banning a member. If that's the case, then I guess a moderator can ban anybody they feel like for whatever reason they feel like, whenever they feel like it, and us members will just have to accept the "deer caught in headlights" feeling.

If the original author asked you not to post/remove a SS of his/her ripped work, would you:

A) comply with their wishes (this action is viewed as respectful)

ignore them (this action can be interpretted as spitting in their faces)

I see netox's point about CLARIFICATION of the rule and then STRICT ADHERENCE to the aforementioned rule. Now the rule ALLOWS posting the rip SSs given a condition: non-distrobution (and I think author's request is another condition that should be added). I don't think it GUARANTEES the right.

Distributing illegal ports is distributing illegal copyrighted material. Whatever you may think, even though we technically can ban anyone "when we feel like it" we wouldn't be mods if we did that. Besides i wouldn't be a very moral person if i on one hand, did everything i can to protect people who make this community what it is and on the other hand, banned people when i feel like it.

But if i have to choose, i'll always choose someone who's devoted hours and hours of their time so you people could "pwettyfy" your desktops over someone who just got here with 10mins of PS experience and posted a ss of a ripped WIP themes so he could feel special.

Yes, that is true because Blue Rocket ASKED people not to rip his desktop and said a full set was coming but some people just couldn't care less about his wishes. The result? I don't think Blue Rocket ever released that wallpaper set. Hmm i wonder why?

The point is, i will never have respect, gratitude and patience for people who's only contribution to this community is screenshots and flame threads like i respect people who produce themes/wallpapers/icons this community depends on. I feel sorry for duyvan who's a great guy and who asked a valid question but some of lowlife here used it for their personal attacks on me.
