[release] Nexplorer 1.6 Public Beta

Recommended Posts

:( Bad News

My main hard drive quit last night, So it is gonna be alittle while before I can release all of the skins that I have made for nexplorer. Obviously I can't add much to the bug reporting because my computer has been relegated to a steaming pile of crap....

Just commening on what was said,

I like the default size of the preview pane how it already is. The folder png is not a neccesity becuase I like my shell32 icons. But if renaming it makes the app not use it then there is no reason to take the option out. Nexplorer is looking really good, hopefully I will get my computer back up and running soon.

actaully, i like preview the way it is. Leave the option to turn it off ;)

(i change my mind alot)

 >.<

I agree with dukie and sid. We want a mac finder. That's we are here. The people who has used the mac finder know, that there is so little things to improve by now. So why implement win-like features instead of perfecting the mac-like ones? If I want something fast, I just need to use windows explorer......is misteriously fast on windows OS ......mmmmmm.... why is that..

vneumann, I have a question. The lower left "special png" seems to be locked in place. COuld you check to see if there is something wrong with the skinning? also can I move things free form or do they have to stay in there respective corners.

Also...

I believe this thread is for BUG REPORTS ONLY!!!!!! read the first post...

thanks seph ;)

vneumann, do what YOU want to do with the app. Don't listen to these so-called 'aqua purists', they can take a hike. I've been comming to aqua-soft longer than most everyone here, and I say add windows features if you like. What is the point in 100% emulation if it's not usable from a windows stand point? Sure I love how Mac OS X looks, however most of the apps out are very hard to use because they try to make windows into OS X, but windows routines are nothing like that of OS X, so features are missing, or certain aspects of the UI just arnt usable.

Remember guys, if you start demanding things from the dev's they will get fed up and leave, it's happened before. So just chill out. It's their app, let them do with it as they please.

Yah renaming the Folder.png to something else deactivates it, and it kinda improves speed, but yes leave the option to use the folder.png on

I think you should try improving the speed a tad more on opening large folders, also there is some small flickering when opening large folders, everything else works and looks amazing

However I got another suggestion, for example our home directory is made of shortcuts, and in Panel view, when we click into those shortcuts, well it just shows the type file, I think it should redirect us, since thats the use of a Shortcut eh

Oh also got another one, I think the Panel view should have more panels. In my opinion, I have some folders that 11 panels arent enough

Ah yes, and we still need a good brushed skin, the trick I did before with the Looca background.png doesnt seem to work anymore

I appreciate i'm not an official beta tester, but i've had something happen that hasn't been pointed out.

When I create a new folder in icon view it refreshes the folder view but has two of every item. This could easily crash the app on a large folder.

Sorry for causing 'flame war' .

I will probably releae two versions.

'lite' for speed freaks and 'regular' for others.

Let's stick to beta testing from this point on.

And mods, please leave the post above alone. It's not from a beta tester but

it seems to be a significant bug.

It doesn't happen to me. Does this happen to you every time you create a new folder

in an icon view? Did it happen to anybody else? I have to know the exact symptom

to fix the bug

Yeah, it happens everytime for me. I just tested it again, it doesn't happen if I do it in Windows Explorer while having NeXplorer open on the same folder though.

Also, you can't rearrange files yourself, is this intentional?

[added]Hmm, it happened when I did it the first time, now it's fine...[/added]

There may be a timing issue in the directory monitoring thread.

It's possible that a lot of other prorams were running and

directory monitoring thread was sort of being delayed and got confused.

Keep watching and please report to me if that happens again.

And here is what the new folder error looked like. I just tested it again with a few more programs running and it does seem to be that delay you were on about.

Otherwise this is a brilliant app, i'm not bothered whether you add features, make it more like the mac finder or whatever. It's very stable and a usable replacement for windows explorer and has actually made using my computer easier a faster. For that, I thank you.

Just discovered a few more things.

- If I set my icons to be large 48x48, the icons in the sidepane arnt 32x32, and look all jagged. (Using png's are fine however.)

- The selection of items is fine at the start of a large folder, but if you browse to the bottom, it slows to a hault.

- And I've discovered that on my machine picture files (png, jpg, bmp, gif) are the files that show bold text, where as everything else is normal weight.

I tried to replicate this duplicate folder display bug but didn't get it, so it's probably the timing error vneumann mentioned.

All folders that are displayed with folder.png have bold/darker text labels. Folders with their own customized icons (not folder.png) have regular non-bold labels. This is similar to what Binary described on the 2nd page or so of this thread, except that this happens with both folders and shortcuts.

vneumann - here's a screenshot of overlapping labels...

----------

For those of you trying to fix the dot misalignment problem (dot on the vertical bar separating the sidebar from the browsing part is shifted to the left), you need to add approximately 3 px to the left of the dot in your favorite graphics editing app.

The milk 2.3 skin by bzeitler can be fixed with this png:

Hi,

I was able to speed up browsing without compromising the look.

There was a delay of about 5 seconds when I opened a folder with

approximately 2500 jpg files(My computer spec: 1.7 GHz, 512MB..)

and there is no delay after it's opened.

I hope this is tolerable.

The speed of the thumbnail mode improved a lot and almost as fast

as the normal mode now.

I'm now working on other stuff and I may not be able to reply to your

post for a while. But the next beta (yes, it's still beta :( ) will be released

some time tomorrow.

I am having trouble with the skinning engine. My Tibook skin came about great, but my tiskin I am having the mouse over darkening problem on three of the buttons. Back\forward, up and the options button. I am not sure what is wrong. But it seems kind of buggy. Hmmm....

I sorta fixed it but not completely satisfied cause I don't know the real cause of this and just put in a work-around. Hope it is good enough for most people.
